In today’s business world, where there exists a steep and a cut-throat competition, every organization is on the threshold of implementing the strategies that would enable them to stand apart in the crowd. Gone are the days when every organization used to adopt a method that was merely modest to attain success in a short period of time. Nowadays, a new trend has taken over the entire industry by storm and that is the frequent exploitation of such clocks by every organization or a company.

Employee time clocks are the time systems that are used to monitor the number of hours worked by every employee each week precisely and appropriately. Such clocks have developed and improved with time and the organizations feel the need of a system that can be used to generate payroll and makes sure that the employees are paid for the number of hours they worked. What is the role of the employees nowadays in an organization? They make use of swipe cards with a magnetic strip through a slot and their names and records are scanned everytime they clock in or out. It seems a quite familiar with that of punch system that was used a long time ago.

Such clocks comprise of electronic time card style systems, standard mechanical time and attendance systems, memory-based clocks and freestanding polling. In the industries today, punch-card time clocks have been replaced by employee computer time clocks. They are also known as “time and attendance systems,”and provide innumerable advantages to the organizations irrespective of their size whether they are large and small. Such systems make it effortless and convenient for the supervisors to record the arrival and departure times of an employee. When an employee wants to log in or log out, he uses unique identifiers, such as cards with barcodes or magnetic stripes; there are biometric input machines that scan the handprints or fingerprints, and iris scanners that are not widely dispersed due to privacy concerns.

There is a diverse range of shapes and sizes of such clocks that include obsolete traditional punch clocks that made use of a time card, electronic swipe card systems, and innovative biometric time clocks that examine a fingerprint so that the employee’s in and out can be recorded. It entirely depends on the size of an organization what type of a time clock it wants to purchase, the type of software that would be exploited and last but not the least, the preferences of the Accounting Department.
