Relocation to another state involves hard work and a lot of paperwork. Many times when people relocate, it is because of their job but there are other reasons that you might relocate such as to further your education, retirement, etc. One of the first things that you need to do when you know you are relocating is to find yourself a place to live in the new state. This could entail you visiting the town or city where you are moving to so you can check out the homes for sale or rent. Once you have your new place of residency, if you are renting, you will need to give your landlord notice that you are moving and when. If you own your home, you have the choice of selling it or renting it out. It is important to remember that the date you gave your landlord is your deadline of when you are leaving so keep that date in mind. If you have decided to sell the house but have not succeeded yet you will have to leave it vacant until it sells or rent it out with the option of buying it.

Next you need to make sure that everyone knows about your new place of residence and the date that becomes official. First go to the post office, put in a change of address, and then notify your bank, credit card companies, family, and friends. A couple of weeks before you move contact your utilities and phone company and tell them the date you want your utilities and phone turned off. Then call the one in your new hometown and tell them when you want them turned on so you will have all the necessities when you arrive. If you have any pets make sure you get their records from the veterinarian.

If you have children in school you should visit their school and ask for their school records so you will have them for the new school. You should also see your doctor(s) and if needed sign release forms so they can transfer your records to your new physician. In between all of this you should start packing. Things that you no longer want or use have a yard sale to make some extra money or give it away. Doing this will mean less things to pack and move. Since you are relocating to another state you will most likely be using a professional moving service instead of renting a truck and moving yourself. You should line up your moving service as soon as you can so you will not be worrying about a moving company on the day you move. Following these tips will make relocation easier and less stressful.
