Remembering Divine Love

I remember.

I was a young child, somewhere between 8 and 12. I was waking up one morning, as if from a dream, and I was wrapped in Love... Divine Love... Love Without Conditions. I didn't want to wake up. I wanted to stay in that Love and never leave it. I held on to the feeling as long as I could, but then I had to open my eyes and return to this version of reality.

I never forgot that dream - or was it a dream at all? Maybe I really was with some higher being or angel or God and was being given comfort and Love that I needed to continue in this life. Perhaps I needed that experience so that the next time I experienced Divine Love I would immediately recognize it and know it's truth.

Of course, I can't imagine that anyone could experience Divine Love and not immediately recognize it. That's because I believe we have all experienced it before - maybe before this lifetime while on the soul plane or some higher dimensional level.

There is a true story I read somewhere about a family that has a little girl and then a new baby boy arrives. Everyone is conce
ed that the daughter will be jealous of the baby. Then, one day, her parents discover that she has gone into the baby's room and is speaking softly to him. These wise parents just listened and didn't interfere. What they heard amazed them. Their daughter was asking the baby, "Do you remember was it feels like to be with God? I'm starting to forget, so please help me remember." - or words to that effect.

When I was a child I KNEW certain things were so, not only without being told, but in defiance of what I was told. At age 6, I rejected definitions of God as cruel, judgmental, angry, vindictive, jealous, and hurtful. I told my cousin, Ella, who was only 4 at the time, that her description of God was false, and that if that was God, I didn't believe in him. So at 6 I declared myself an atheist. This created huge uproar in my family, because my mother worried about what her relatives would think. This did not change my mind one iota.

Skipping ahead to 1986, on a train headed for Manhattan, I was reading The Dancing Wu Li Masters, by Gary Zukav. This book on the history of theoretical physics, written for the non-physicist, proved to be the catalyst that would propel me into the spiritual life.

In one of the experiments, two particles that are a bonded pair are separated by electrical means and then one is passed through a magnetic field. Since the particles are bonded, they are the yin and yang of each other, i.e., their spins are in opposite directions (up and down or left and right). Then, a magnetic field is used to change the spin of one particle as it passes through the field. To the amazement of the scientists conducting the experiment, the second particle's spin changes SIMULTANEOUSLY with the change in spin of the first one. There is no time lapse whatsoever. Scientists asked the question, "How can two of anything communicate so quickly?" (p.287) This question caused my mind to stop.

When my mind started up again, it was filled with more questions. "Communication? Instantaneous communication? Faster than the speed of light communication? Particles communicating? Telepathy? Consciousness?"

And then I began remembering things I had read and heard from western religions. "Everything exists in the mind of God." "God is everywhere."

"Literally true?" I asked myself. If so, this was a concept of God that resonated and felt real to me. So I found God, if you will, in a book on theoretical physics.

This proved to be a forerunner of my next step into spirituality. Four months later I was invited by an acquaintance to meet a meditation master, or guru, at the Siddha Yoga Ashram in South Fallsberg, New York. Gurumayi, also known as Swami Chidvilasananda, was a small, Indian woman whom, I was told, gave spiritual initiation to her followers. I went to meet her out of curiosity and with no expectations. After chanting in Sanskrit for 45 minutes (a chant I couldn't follow or pronounce), Gurumayi gave a talk, absolutely none of which I remember. Then bega
Darshan, an opportunity to meet the master for a brief moment.

As I stood in line with perhaps hundreds of other people inching our way forward to where Gurumayi was sitting, I began feeling waves and waves of Unconditional Love coming from Gurumayi and spreading outward like rays from the sun. I recognized the palpable feeling of Divine Love. I remembered the dream I had had as a child, and I KNEW this Love was the same energy I had known one morning long ago and never since.

I did receive Shaktipat that day, the transference of a spark of Divine Light from teacher the student, and that experience did propel me along my spiritual path. But it was remembering Divine Love that opened me to receive these energies and made what came later possible.

Interestingly enough, the ancient teachings on which Siddha Yoga is based are the same notions I had "remembered" when I read Gary Zukav's book. God is everywhere. God is, in fact, everything. There is no separation from God; separation is an illusion. God consciousness is our true Self. "See God in each other." "Nothing exists that is not Shiva" (another name for God).

Western translation [of the Our Father prayer] begins, "Our Father, who are in Heaven," acknowledging this separation.... The Original Aramaic texts, however, offer a different view of our relationship with our Heavenly Father. A translation of the same phrase begins, "Radiant One: You shine within us, outside us - even darkness shines- when we remember."

So, how can we remember?

It is said by every competent channel today that our Ascension process is, in large part, a process of remembering. That we are all, in our higher aspects, already enlightened and already ascended. In choosing to be on the Earth in the 3rd dimensional energies, we agreed to a veil of forgetfulness. Now is the time to remember. The Earth is a "free will" zone. Therefore, we must ask for - set the intention for - whatever we choose to experience.

We remember Divine Love by asking to experience Divine Love once again, by asking to remember what it feels like, and by asking to be a vehicle through which Divine Love can be offered to each and every human on Earth. We set the intention to live from our Hearts, to open our Hearts to each person we meet or pass on the street, and to send them Divine Love no matter what they say or how they treat us. When we set and hold that intention, we, ourselves, will receive and experience Divine Love in all its beauty and power and gentleness. This is how we create Heaven on Earth.
