It’s almost a decade that energy deregulation has been in practice in Texas. If we logically try to prove whether it was a failure or success, we’ll come to a conclusion. But there are some other people who find it more interesting to charge this deregulation with some mythical blames. They say, “A word to the wise”. So, let me tell you some of the points that will show you in no time why deregulation is a better move and the regulation was not. Once we’re clear on this point, we can head forward to discuss about saving on residential electricity in Texas.

Let me explain it through three points:

No monopoly – This is the point that brought more than one options for the Texans through deregulation. The problem with a monopolistic energy sphere is that it never allows you to go against it as you have got just one option in such a situation. So, you have to go with what you have. Contrary to this monopolistic option, a deregulated energy market in Texas is full of options for the energy users.

Power to choose option – Power to choose is one more option that makes the big difference between a regulated and deregulated energy market. This option is a direct negation of the monopolistic option that Texans had in regulated market. A power to choose option allows energy consumers to go for an option of their own choice. If they want to go for a pay as you go plan, they can switch to this plan and can also avail a fixed or variable plan depending upon their electricity and gas needs. These options help commercial and residential electricity and gas users in Texas to save on their high power bills.

Awareness Campaigns – As there are more people associated with the deregulated market – more energy players in the game with more and more jobs for the residents, so it becomes important to give awareness to the energy consumers about the better consumption of gas and electricity. Recently, Grid21 launched its nation-wide campaign to tell the residential electricity consumers in Texas and other states about how to save maximum through smart meters. There are also planning to avail developers for some applications that would streamline the process. So, deregulation in Texas is technology – ridden and also very flexible to accommodate such campaigns.

Now, these three points clearly tells you the true picture of energy deregulation. If you’ve still some ambiguities about deregulated market in Texas, you need to come up with comments focusing how regulated market is better in helping Texans make big savings out of their commercial or residential electricity bills.
