Open Source Operating System: Since its inception, the source code of OpenBSD has been available to the developers. Earlier, the source code used to be available to only a small group of developers. With the advent of OpenBSD, public and open access to the source repository became possible,which allowed the developers to play a more active role. Not only software, but the hardware documentation was also made public. The open access to hardware documentation made the job of writing driver software much easier. Free Software Licensing: OpenBSD copyright policy is very simple. The spirit of the original Berkeley Unix copyrights has been maintained. No restriction has been imposed on the commercial and private use of OpenBSD. Only some minor requirements need to be fulfilled which are necessary for maintenance of copyright notices in the redistributed versions.
