Where can you find the best retiree jobs? Do you thinkrnthey are buried in the back pages of some newspaper wantrnads?
You can try it, but it would be a long shot.
If you are a senior, and a retiree, there is really no magicrntrail leading to a good job. And local newspaper classifiedrnads will be of very little help to you.
You are going to have to spend a lot of effort, carefulrnplanning, good preparation, and above all else…persistence.
Oh yes, and be observant to things going on around you.
Take notes of the goings on and changes in the localrnbusiness community.
But, I have good news for you. There are jobs out there inrnthe wide, wide marketplace that are sorely in need of yourrntalents, experience, and individual attitude towards work.
However, you will have to identify them and where they arernlurking, because they are not going to walk up on your porch
and drag you off the lawn chair and make you an offer.
Begin with this iron clad fact, many of the best retireernjobs are not in some classified ad, anywhere. The reason
for this situation is very simple.
The need may exist within a business and is recognized byrnboth employees and management, but nobody has probably yetrnarticulated the need in so many words.
Usually, a business grows in increments, a little at a time.
Everybody working there gradually just expends more effort
to keep pace until the staff is almost stretched to itsrnlimit.
Then, one day, the business is extended beyond its ability
to operate smoothly and schedules begin to slip. Then thernlight bulb goes off in the head of someone in management andrnthey begin looking for another employee to bring on board.
Are you beginning to see where we are going with this? Thernanswer for your search for retiree jobs is in your hands.
You have to study the organizations that interest you forrnemployment and contact them just before the figurative lightrnbulb blazes into the act.
Now here you are, looking around for good retiree jobs tornisolate one and nail it down for your own.
Your first step is to determine exactly what job you want.
Don't condition yourself to jump on the first opening yournhear about. Be discriminating, after all, you have a wealth
of experience in the work you retired from.
Believe in yourself!
Make out a simple resume. Include all of the types of workrnyou have had and give an insightful job description of whatrnyou did and how it benefited your employer overall.
A resume should be an action story, not simply a litany ofrndates and facts. Make it a brief tale of what you did andrnhow your efforts helped the company, or companies, tornprosper.
Be truthful, and don't allude to any unhappyrnfeelings you had about the work or the employer.
Compile a list of the businesses you would like to work for
and the positions you would like to apply for at each one.
Research each organization on your list, Google themrncompletely and identify the employment managers.
Every business has an individual personality all its own.
Learn about each one on your list and decide if you wouldrnfit well into its philosophy of doing business.
Make it a long list of prospective employers. Keep in mindrnthat applying for retiree jobs is like crossing a busyrntraffic intersection against the light.
The more often youmake the crossing the better your chance of
being hit by oncoming traffic. In this case, being hired.
Do your homework on employers you want to work for, find outrnall you can about their work profile, identify who does thernhiring for each and work up a positive sounding resume.
Oh yes! Be sure to work up a good presentation on how theyrnwould benefit by hiring you.
Be explicit about this part. Show them how well yournunderstand their business and how you can make a positivernimpact on their activities.
Now is not the time to be hesitant or modest. Don't try tornoversell yourself, but by the same token don't undersellrnyour abilities to be worthwhile hiring.
Make an appointment to visit each one on the list and go forrnan interview. Keep updating the list and add more names asrnyou learn of them.
This may sound very simplistic and basic…and it is. Therernare no hidden secrets to finding retiree jobs, or any jobs
for that matter.
In time you will become more skillful atrnall of it, including the personal presentation at thernemployment interview.
This will work for you! Be persistent and you will find thernretiree jobs openings you want and deserve.
