Root canal is a dental condition that can affect people of every age group. Thankfully by effective root canal treatment one can get rid of this severe tooth decay problem and lead a normal life. But when do you need to undergo a root canal treatment? The symptoms to find this out are mentioned below. Swollen gums: The swelling of gums is a common indicator of many dental problems. In this case people experience swelling initially in the gums which later on spreads to the face, neck and even head. If you experience such a condition, do not neglect it as you would think it to be some other body part disorder and ignore it. But on the other hand it would be creating an infection that would cause acute pain and problems for your teeth. Sensitivity: Prolonged sensitivity while eating or drinking cold or hot substances can be a sign of weak gums and therefore would result in root canal infection. Occasional sensitivity is experienced by many people and can be cured easily, however if you see a continuity in this pattern it would require a timely root canal treatment to avoid serious damage later on. Tooth/teeth discoloration: If the enamel of your tooth seems to lose luster and the color appears to be fading away it can be the beginning of a root canal infection. If you too experience any of the above mentioned symptoms, visiting your dentist is a must. After you know the symptoms you would want to know what your dentist would mean when he says you need to undergo a root canal procedure. What exactly does this treatment do and how can it help you get rid of your tooth problem is mentioned below. This treatment aims at removing the damaged nerve and pulp from the tooth. The dentists internally clean up the entire tooth and remove the unwanted waste that is settled deep inside and then seal it up. To begin this procedure first the dentists take an X-ray of the patient's teeth to examine the condition of affected tooth. This helps them understand to what extent the infection has spread and which area needs to be treated accordingly. From here on begins the process of treating the root canal, for this a hole is drilled on the affected tooth so that the affected nerves etc can be removed. The entire surface area is continuously cleaned and flushed with water so that no impurities are left behind and the area is completely free from catching any sort of infection later on. After this the drilled hole is sealed and after some time covered with a crown. The end result is painless and brand new looking tooth free from infection.
