The past few years and probably further more to come have been and would be greatly influenced by female racehorses, if we swear by the trend thoroughbred racing has been subjected to recently. With Rachel Alexandra, winning away the Horse of the Year in 2009, followed by Zenyatta in 2010 and then Havre de Grace last year, 2011; the way the two year old fillies of the 2012 season are coming up, we might as well expect another one this year!rnFor the previous year, Royal Delta closely stalked Havre de Grace in a few races with Plum Pretty in close proximity; however she failed to hit the mark. This year however, the filly is back and is aiming high at the richest race on the planet, the Dubai World Cup as her jackpot for the season. rnShe was last witnessed in the Sabin Stakes at Gulfstream Park where she lost disappointingly to senior colleague, Awesome Maria by 8 distinct lengths. According to race feedbacks, she was no match to the winner but with the remaining field of 3 still 8 more lengths behind her, she faired decent. rnHer most prominent victory drew out from the Breeder’s Cup Ladies Classic last year when she glided to victory. Throughout the entire race, Royal Delta maintained a safe and appropriate distance from the race lead Plum Pretty. The latter set an early pace and maintained lead for until the final stretch and then suddenly ran out of gas. Royal Delta won the race clear by two and a half lengths off the runner up It’s Tricky. rnDuring the Black Eyed Susan Stakes last year, Royal Delta had registered another win at the Grade 2 event for fillies after cantering through the mile and one eighth in her usually stalking-the-lead style and emerged victorious by two and a half lengths ahead of Buster’s Ready. Though not a fast finish, she clocked 1:49.60 while the track record rests untouched at 1:47.20 by Private Terms. rnRoyal Delta has also won the Grade 1 Alabama Stakes where she ran next to her usually rivals, It’s Tricky and Plum Pretty and maintained a signature style race winning it by five and a half lengths clear of the race runner up It’s Tricky. Plum Pretty lasted only fourth. rnRoyal Delta boasts of royal pedigree; sired by the great racehorse and sire, Empire Maker, she is out of dam Delta Princess by A.P.Indy. The filly is conditioned by Bill Mott and raced wearing the silks of Saud bin Khaled until she was picked up during Keeneland sales to disperse her owner’s investments. Royal Delta is now a possession of Ben Leon’s Besilu Stables and is slated to start next in the Dubai World Cup 2012 on March 31st. rnThere are many legendary fillies and mares that racing history clearly boasts of and Royal Delta is no surprise.
