To state that online poker has experienced a tumultuous time would be no exaggeration. Remember the super user scandals, the political issues, and the banking problems that the poker sites themselves have had recently. In addition there were idiotic poker celebrity drama which incredibly make the news. It is sufficient to make one contemplate losing this pastime altogether. But then what would we do for entertainment? Plus some of us actually play online poker for a living. However many good players would say that the games have gotten much more difficult to make money from lately. Done are the days when a gal could sit down at a table at Paradise Poker, play for a few hours after dinner and almost always make a hundred bucks while watching situation comedies. Nowadays it seems like many of your opponents have discovered how to play well. This is sad, but not unexpected. Players are just not going to continue to keep losing their chips for sustained periods. It is simple economics really. Unless the poor players are wealthy they have to learn the game or they will give up. One wacky new aspect in the game that has earned some fanfare is the existence of poker bot software. There are those who would blame these for making the competition harder. However the truth is that many of these programs are mediocre themselves and therefore only occupy the very lowest limits. There are a couple of good ones around though. The poker rooms vary significantly in their enforcement of their anti-bot regulations, but the overall trend is moving in a direction of tolerance. There are several good reasons for this. Primarily, we are back to basic economics again. The competition makes things trying. To keep the doors open any enterprise must create enough revenue, and online poker rooms are not immune. Poker robot programs are the best players that the poker site has. They pay the most rake. Some rooms in reality cannot afford to ban them. Only the very busiest sites have the permission from their accountants to do that, and the ones who do are basically are just making a public relations maneuver. Then, we need to ask ourselves, are these poker bots really all that terrible of a thing to have at the tables? What harm do they bring? The tables are more full due to them, and some poker rooms may be out of business without them. So in reality they provide liquidity, which helps all players in the end. They retain no real unfair advantage over human players, seeing as they have no access to any additional data. The only players who are upset about them are good players who believe that bots are to be blamed for the games being tougher. But as previously discussed, that was an inevitable and natural eventuality anyway. Finally, pokerbots do not really go against the intention of the highly respected game that we refer to as poker. Truth be told they embellish it. Tweaking your poker bot profile to play how you want it to is probably the climax of a persons poker learning experience. It is the next progressive step for a committed student of the game. Getting it to do what you want is quite gratifying, and a bunch of fun. Don’t knock it until you have tried it. And who knows, it could save internet poker in the process.
