Someone asked me recently what I held to be sacred. “Sacred” is defined as being reverently dedicated to a person, service or thing. That is how I view reflexology, the sacred art of acupressure on the sole of each foot to bring about balance and stress relief. Not only is this a part of the body that can be extremely sensitive and a reflection of the rest of the body, but it is usually a very private part, revealed only to those closest to that person. I hear so many people express hatred for their “ugly” feet. To me, they are a marvel of engineering, and something to revere. They are the foundational support system of the body. I honor the feet that I am privy to see because I know they represent the person’s body and its relative state of health or lack thereof. The presence of calluses, bunions, inflammations, puffiness, abnormal growths, cracks in the skin, and visible dehydration indicates foot imbalances to me. These aspects of the feet reflect both the past traumas and the memory of them. Happily, I’ve found that many of these conditions improve when the person consumes enough good, high alkaline water along with a series of reflexology sessions. Just as the feet are the foundation of the physical body, water is the basis of our planet’s ecosystem. As sacred as I consider feet to be, on a larger scale, I consider water to be the most sacred of our planet’s elements. I approach the subject of water with respect, especially since I’ve discovered that, like feet, water holds memory, too. Dr. Masaru Emoto, the Japanese scientist whose book, The Hidden Messages in Water, has written how our thoughts and words affect water’s molecular structure. He has shown that water in containers covered with the word "love" will freeze into beautiful, symmetrical crystals, but the water in vessels covered with the word "hate,” will make deformed, ugly, misshapen forms. Our bodies can thrive only with the perfect crystalline water (http://www.masaru-emoto.net/english/ephoto.html). Tap, bottled, distilled and reverse osmosis waters are incapable of creating these six-sided symmetrical crystals that are ideal for the body. Which water would you choose to drink? Can you believe that with only 1% of our planet’s water considered drinkable, most people still don’t realize the scarcity of this dwindling vital element? The complexity and seeming simplicity of water is unrivaled. No other element on earth has its properties. None comes in three forms of solid, liquid and gas. Too, all other substances’ solid form sinks in its liquid form. Water is the only exception to that rule (ice floats in water). I can certainly appreciate the sentiment Dr. Emoto expresses in the following prayer regarding the Gulf’s recent oil spill: "Now let's give energy of love and gratitude to the waters and all the living creatures in Mexico Gulf (sic) by praying like this: ‘To the water, whales, dolphins, pelicans, fishes, shellfishes, planktons, corals, algae and all creatures in our Gulf of Mexico: I apologize. Please forgive me. Thank you. I love you.’” Just as reflexology can bring welcome healing energy to the body, so too, pure love can help bring healing energy to our planet’s scarce and sacred element, water.
