Sacrifices
We’ve all been told that old familiar story from our parents about how they had to walk for miles to get to school. We have heard numerous stories of all the different sacrifices that they have had to make in order to put food on the table. Chances are that these stories ring very true; that either you or your parents were the product of the “Great Depression.”
I am writing this because I want you to think about your story; the story that you will pass down to your children; our story of all the sacrifices that you’ve had to make.
We as women always seem to put everyone else’s wants and needs first. Let’s face it, some days it’s hard just to get a moment in. That moment can be something so small as making a quick phone call to tell your best friend hello. It could be that moment of having a cigarette in peace, by yourself. If you are able to grab more than a moment you might be able to lock yourself in the bathroom and take a bath. But chances are your children will be right outside the door yelling MOM and your husband will be yelling “Honey, where’s the remote?” It is so nice to feel needed and that everyone depends on you. As a mom you just do everything for everyone else. Here are some of the sacrifices mom’s have had to go without for the sake of their family: Careers, schooling, hair appointments, new clothes, buying a new vehicle, make up, guy membership, tanning salon, getting their toes and nails done, spa treatments and lastly, their dreams.
These are only to name a few. There are so many more. We put in extra shifts at work, budget the bills when there is a negative balance, try and make good meals out of leftovers, we are Ms. Fix-it’s, and if you are a single mom you can put a huge X2 (times two) on this list.
As a parent you don’t have to tell your children what sacrifices you’ve made for them. Children are so smart; they see everything you do for them. Otherwise they wouldn’t be outside your bathroom door waiting for you. The hugs, smiles and kisses are payment in full for a wonderful job you have done.
This article is not just for the women out there. There are a ton of men out there going through everything just as we are, trying to raise their children. So this applies to you as well.
Do yourself a favor and make a list of sacrifices that you’ve had to make over the years. And when you are done making out your list take that first item and think back to the moment that you wanted to do it. How long has it been? Do that with every item on your list, you have to go back so that you can feel the enthusiasm that you originally felt. You are bringing back that feeling of excitement. Then take the time and do it. It could be something as simple as pampering yourself at the spa, or going to work out at the gym. Just take the time out for you! Take good care of yourself and don’t forget to say thank you to those who have had to make sacrifices for you.
