Having methods or rules for safe dating is imperative for single women of all ages. There are many different strategies for safe dating. Personally I have found the ‘code word’ method to be my personal favorite! The way this method works is to have one person, preferably someone you live with, call or text you randomly during the date and use one simple code word such as ‘blue.’ There can be different response words to determine if the text receiver is either safe, happy, or perhaps looking for an escape from the date. Words that are not easily connected to the safe word are often best. For example if the receiver is doing well the response should not be ‘green,’ rather something random like ‘rice.’ This method proves extremely effective if something has happened on the date. For instance, if any word other than the code word is sent in reply, the roommate or whoever might be checking in on the date knows that something is wrong and that a possible rescue from the date might be necessary. Another safe dating method is to carry or conceal a protective device on your body such as pepper spray. Most sporting goods stores sell very easily concealable forms of pepper spray that lock into place to best avoid an accidental spray, and often have a clear dye in them that will only appear under black light and stains skin for up to a week. If you are uncomfortable with the idea of concealing something that can be considered a weapon, there is always another option. A whistle can be easily concealed under the sleeve of a coat or in a pocket. A whistle is a great idea to alert others in your area that something is wrong and can call immediate attention when needed. One last imperative rule of dating is always let multiple people know where you are going and when you intend to return. Even if no one checks on you during the date, there will be concern at the lack of your return home. Often planning to meet a friend or family member after the date provides for an out from a clingy date if needed, as well as bringing concern if you are not where you are intended to be when you are intended to be there. With all of these tips and rules in mind, a single female can safely enter the dating scene with confidence and peace of mind!
