Diving in the Whitsundays Islands is a truly unique experience. With the area’s deep blue waters and impressive array of marine life, there’s never a bad time to do some diving at the Whitsundays. You definitely won’t have as much fun, though, if you don’t exercise the necessary safety guidelines for diving. Instead of getting to admire the beauty around you, you put your life at risk. If you follow all the basic safety rules, your Whitsunday dive can be one of the most fun and exhilarating experiences of your life. First off, it helps if you get the proper training before going for your first dive. This helps you feel comfortable and in control underwater. Scuba diving experts also advise beginners to dive within their abilities, even after undergoing training courses. One of the tips scuba diving trainers often teach their students is to avoid holding their breath underwater. It’s always best to breathe as normally as possible, even if you’re diving into deep waters. Irregular breathing can cause lung injuries, or, in worst-case scenarios, death. If you inhale too much, you can also suffer from oxygen toxicity. All these risks can be avoided by simply breathing normally while diving. Another Whitsunday diving safety measure is learning how to slowly ascend to the surface. When you ascend from the water, you are actually getting rid of nitrogen that was collected in your tissues and bloodstream. Ascend too quickly, and you could suffer from decompression sickness. It’s a good idea to pause for a minute every 20 feet or so. Plus, some species of marine life dwell in the water’s shallow depths, so relax and enjoy the view as you rise to the water’s surface. Never dive alone when scuba diving Whitsundays. Always have a guide or a diving buddy with you. This way, you can keep an eye on each other during the activity. Practice safety procedures with each other, and make sure all your equipment is in good working condition. If things take a turn for the worse, your buddy might just end up saving your life. It’s also important to plan your Whitsunday diving adventure. Determine how deep you plan on diving and the amount of time you want to spend underwater. With these safety measures in mind, you can go ahead and enjoy the diving opportunities that the Whitsundays have to offer.
