Stroll through a best buy and you’ll see more than a handful of Samsung devices. The Korean based company makes televisions, smartphones, and computer components. But the reason the tech giant is being talked about in this spot is because it had a record Q1, and actually came in first as the smartphone leader, stealing the lead from Apple. According to Zack Whittaker on ZDNet, “While Samsung and Apple remain staunch rivals in the mobile space — the two still engaged in an acrimonious battle over patents — Samsung seemingly took the crown as the smartphone leader. All Apple could do was watch as Samsung’s Galaxy phones stole the hearts and minds of consumers, leaving the iPhone very much in second place, according to Strategy Analytics. Out of that, 44.5 million Samsung smartphones gave the company a 30.5 percent of the smartphone market, while Apple’s sales set at 35.1 million, giving it a 24.1 percent share. The analytics firm said Samsung also took over Nokia as the world’s number one cellphone maker, selling 93.5 million handsets in the January–March quarter. As Reuter’s reports, Samsung sold over 20,000 Galaxy smartphones per hour in January–March. Apple came close, and even with a greater spread of iPhone devices, not limiting sales to the latest iPhone 4S but including the iPhone 4 and 3GS to add variety to its range, it still fell short by 9 percentage points.rnBut nobody can quite agree on the numbers.” This isn’t surprising. It isn’t the first time that reporting companies can’t agree on numbers. IHS iSuppli has Apple shipping 35 Million smartphones versus Samsung’s 32 Million. Not that it matters much, the thunder belongs to Samsung, who’s Galaxy II devices kicked ass. Helped by creative marketing that sort of targeted iPhone fans that would camp out for the Jesus phone, it’s no wonder that Samsung took the crown. Good phone, creative marketing, equals recipe for success. And when you start getting into profits, that’s when Samsung really looks sharp.rnAs written by Steven Musil on CNET.com, “The South Korea-based company said net profits rose 82 percent to a record 5.05 trillion won, or about $4.45 billion, for the fiscal first quarter ending March 31, compared with 2.78 trillion won a year earlier. Samsung also recorded record quarterly operating profits of $5.85 trillion won, in line with earlier guidance provided by the company.” He goes on to say, “Samsung’s handset division accounted for 73 percent of the company’s total profit, bringing in 4.27 trillion won, triple over the year-ago period. The division’s operating profit margin jumped to 18.4 percent from 11 percent a year ago on the back of strong sales of the Galaxy S and Note smartphones. Analysts estimate Samsung sold 90 million handsets, including 44 million smartphones. Profits from the company’s TV and home appliances business skyrocketed to 530 billion won from 80 billion a year ago. However, semiconductor profits plummeted 54 percent to 760 billion won compared to last year.” rnAbout SeedCornPPC: Seed Corn Advertising is an online Advertising Network based in Los Angeles, California committed to establishing new business development partnerships and to grow your search network and ours.
