In many films the great comedic team of Laurel and Hardy used a basic premise. A slight misunderstanding with some third party in the beginning of the movie makes a slow steady march to all out war by the end of the film.

It's a comedy formula that has gotten many laughs over the years. However it is nothing funny about it when it comes to the marriage relationship. Slight misunderstandings have been escalated to the point of no return and far too many marriages either never recover or just flat out crumble all together.

There are a number of reasons for this but these will make the top five on anyone's list.

1. Talking Past

What could have easily been diffused is now out of control because you and your spouse are not listening to each other. Instead the whole point now is to make your voice heard over and over again. What they are saying is meaningless as far as you are conce
ed. This whole argument would be settled if only they would listen to what you are saying. Funny your significant other feels the same way,

2. Pride

This one thing alone has pushed marital disputes to the breaking point and twenty miles beyond. Both parties know they cannot be one hundred percent right. Both parties know the other side is making good valid points.

But at this point they cannot (or more accurately refuse to) stop themselves. Their ego says they are right and the other person is wrong. There's no middle ground. And besides what they said wounded you emotionally so now it's all out war to pay them back for what happened. Pride comes before a fall and if you are not careful that fall will come in the form of your marriage.
