Science of Neurotherapy
Neurotherapy is an ancient healing ritual of India, as followed in Ayurveda, to cure ailments by allowing the body to correct its problem. You can say it is much like Jackie Chan’s art of fighting without fighting. In this natural healing method, the various aspects of the body involved include the nerves, the joints, muscles, blood and lymphatic channel.
Balance of the three humours
The healing revolves around the three different humours or body energy forces called the Vata, Kapha, and Pitta. These three humours produce the physiological balance that exists within the body. If any one of these three is out of synchrony, it leads to disease. It is the work of the neurotherapist to bring back the balance among the unbalanced humours.
This rehabilitative treatment is known in Ayurveda under different names. Vata represents the air, kapha is the water humour, and pitta is the bile humour. You can increase or decrease the amount of humour produced by applying pressure on the nerve channels. For instance, you can relieve flatulence by correcting the amount to Vata in the body.
Use of massage therapy
When using massage, the therapist increases or decreases the flow of blood and fluids to the various organs. So, it is like applying pressure on the nerve channels in that it controls the functioning of the various organs. In this case, the effect is achieved by regulating the blood flow.
Ayurvedic Neurotherapygoes under numerous names in various parts of India. In North India, people refer to it as Ladara. In the south, they call it the Kerali massage. Nadi Mardan Kriya, to give it the regional name, combines Vedic principles and philosophy. In Mumbai, Mr. Lajpatrai Mehra brought this art of natural healing back to the focus through his pioneering effort for recreating new avenues for the people.
Integrity of the human body
Most important of all is the emphasis of the system in the integrity of the body in healing itself. The body is subjected to the mechanical forces, in combination with the psychological forces and bio-chemical forces. When there is disease, the bio-chemical forces go out of focus. It creates an imbalance that we feel in the form of the mechanical forces as fever or headache.
The therapist will activate (or deactivate) certain organs or tissues inside the body by applying pressure or massages at specific locations in the body. He stimulates or depresses the flow of blood and body fluids using pressure and massage on nerve channels.
It differs from other body-work medical therapies in that it is applied directly on the hands and feet. Most of the time, this is applied through the feet. The therapist will use two chairs to rest his body weight while he transfers the massage through his feet to the body of the patient. The pressure of the massage is controlled skilfully by the therapist to increase the healing power. He considers the age and sex of the patient, the seriousness of the ailment, and then applies the massage to the nerve channels connecting the affected organ. The massage stretches the tissue and muscles in such a way that the malady is rectified.
