Search Engine Optimization Terms Explained: Ls â No
In the most recent installment of Search Engine Optimization Terms Explained, we discussed a number of terms related to the SEO industry that are critical for businesses and web masters to understand. These included hyperlinks – the clickable links you find all over the web, indexation – the cataloging of your content by search engines, Keywords – the words used to find data on the web, and Link Juice- the credibility one link passes to the corresponding page. The following are a number of other terms related to search engine optimization and search engine marketing. Latent Semantic Index LSI terms are terms that are related to the main terms on a page. For instance, consider a Pittsburgh SEO company, which would probably use terms like SEO in Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh search engine optimization, and so on. LSI terms are terms that should naturally occur in conjunction with these terms, like Pittsburgh web design, PA SEO Company, or SEO firm in Pennsylvania. The more these LSI terms support the primary keywords, the more natural a site's On-Page optimization will be, and the clearer the site's overall meaning in the search engines. Meta Data Meta data is the data entered into certain areas of a website that work to tell search engines and consumers what the site is all about. Meta data used to play a prominent role in the ranking of a site, but today this is not necessarily the case. In fact, the major search engines like Google, Bing and Yahoo don't use Meta Data any longer as part of their algorithm or metrics. However, the data is still the source of display information in the search engines, so it's still important to include this information, despite the fact that the search engines will categorize the site by the data and information that is contained within the pages and posts. Monetization of a Web Page or Site Monetization refers to a site that earns income in some way. This can be through advertising, an opt-in form, with Google Adsense, or products or services for sale directly on the site. Not every site is directly monetized, but most sites do seek some kind of conversion point. Nameservers, Name-servers, or Name Servers Nameservers are settings in the hosting account of a particular website that tell the host where to point the site. This is useful in situations where a domain is registered with one company but hosted by another. Nameservers can easily be changed by a webmaster or a savvy site owner. NoFollow or DoFollow Link Types One of the most controversial parts of search engine optimization, NoFollow and DoFollow links are very aptly named: NoFollow links do not permit a search engine's bot to follow the link to the referenced source, while DoFollow links encourage the bot to spider off the link. This is especially useful for Off-page SEO purposes, where DoFollow links actually pass page rank and authority to the referenced page. In the next installment of Search Engine Optimization Terms Explained, we'll discuss in detail a number of the terms briefly mentioned in this article, including Off and On page optimization, organic traffic and Page Rank.
