Search Engine Optimization Terms Explained: Pl â Re
In the last article in this series titled Search Engine Optimization Terms Explained: Of – Pa, four SEO terms were detailed as part of our continuing comprehensive search engine optimization index series. These terms included On-Page and Off-Page Optimization – strategies for boosting your website's search rankings, Organic Traffic – traffic that is awarded by merit and not by paid accounts, and Page Rank – a Google measure of trust and authority. In this part of the series we'll uncover 4 more terms that are a vital part of search engine optimization industry. *Plugins Plugins refer to programs that enhance a website platform. For instance, the most popular website platform is Wordpress, and it has hundreds of different types of plugins available to its users. Plugins include programs that make SEO data more relevant and searchable, slideshows and picture viewers, anti-plagiarism plugins, anti-spam plugins, and many more. In fact, most of additional user functions on websites that are not core to the platform are developed and applied in the form of plugins. Plugins can also have custom uses, and in today's world of cheap outsourcing, it's possible to have a plugin custom- built to your precise specifications rather cheaply. *Press Release Syndication Press release syndication is widely regarded as one of the most effective SEO tools available, but it is also an extremely effective public relations tool. Press releases announce news or events related to a company or organization and attempts to generate publicity in the news on its own merit. As a by-product of this, press release syndication helps to create dozens, hundreds and possibly even thousands of credible backlinks for a single (popular) news event. Press release syndication works similarly to article marketing: a press release distribution site will grant republishing rights to other press release sites and media sources, to RSS feeds and other types of syndication – including direct syndication for high value press releases. *PPC PPC stands for Pay Per Click and is an advertising model based on PPC search engines like Google and Microsoft AdCenter. When an internet user types a keyword into a search engine, advertisers can bid how much they will pay for that potential click if their ads are featured in better positions than others. Proper bidding and optimization techniques will lead to the best positioning, but ultimately advertisers only pay for actual clicks. *Referring Domains The number of referring domains to a website can actually be more important than the number of backlinks pointing to a site. A referring domain is essentially a unique top level domain that has links to another site's pages. To put this in perspective, imagine a website that has 50,000 backlinks. Sounds impressive, right? What about if you knew that all but a few of those backlinks came from the same domain? Not so impressive now. The more diverse the spread of domains pointing to a particular site or page, the better, because it reinforces the perception that it's not just your "mom" linking back to your site. In the next article in this series will discuss four more terms related to the search engine optimization industry. But if your site needs help and you want to get to the top now, use the links below to take immediate action.
