If you have been considering employing some search engine optimization (SEO) techniques into your website but are new to the industry, you may find that you have been fed some common SEO myths. Some of these myths can create problems for your website in the future whilst others will just put you off the idea of SEO all together. But which of these myths is actually true?

SEO is too difficult for “regular” people to understand False. Sure, some SEO topics and issues can be complex and hard to understand if you have no experience with them, but the basics are just that – basic. A simple understanding is all you need in the beginning to help your website to succeed in search engine listings. Don’t worry about the more complex topics until later on when it may be worth your while to employ a professional.

There’s too much to learn about SEO False. Learning about SEO is the same as learning about any other subject – you can’t expect to learn everything there is to know in a single afternoon or day. It is also one of those subjects where you will always continue to learn, as new things are always being introduced and discovered about SEO. Begin with learning the basics and allow the rest to follow naturally.

SEO takes too long False. When you are creating your website, you use one point of view whilst writing your content, another whilst creating your source code, and another whilst designing how the site will ultimately look. It is extremely easy to integrate an SEO strategy into your website whilst doing all these things – you’re doing them already, so why not? Optimization is, at the end of the day, there to help you and your business.

Not everyone needs SEO False. A lot of people believe that if they are already doing reasonably well with search engine rankings that they can just forget about SEO all together. What they don’t realize is that SEO is an ongoing process – you will always come across something that you can tweak or optimize to give your website the best opportunities at succeeding possible. Just because your website is currently doing well in rankings does not mean it will always be that way.

SEO is impossible for a large website False. As the old adage goes, Rome wasn’t built in a day – this goes for creating a website too. SEO is possible for websites of all sizes; the best strategy is just to take the process one page at a time. The thing to remember when it comes to SEO is that every single page on your website works as a doorway to your brand for potential customers so they all need to be properly optimized.

Don’t be deterred by the SEO myths you have heard in the past – by doing the relevant research, and perhaps investing in an expert, you can begin optimizing your website in no time.
