If you have been involved in SEO (search engine optimization) for a while, you can remember when I could create a website and get ranked at the top of any search engine with little effort.
All I had to do was load the page with the keywords you want the top to make sure that your meta tags is filled with the same keywords, submit the page and in a few days or weeks it has captured one of the 20 or even top 10 results.
The major search engines were quite easy to understand. Some focused on the first 90 characters on a page, others gave more weight to the title tag in HTML code, another more attention paid to the general content and, finally, some use a combination of factors to determine the range of a page. And if you were an expert in search engines, knowing that the information sought engine.
At that time, no penalty was given by both keyword stuffing, hidden text, and some of the other tactics that can get in trouble in the world today.
The end result is search engine optimization for the average webmaster was almost like child's play for years.
Well, times have changed! The same methods described above, not only will hurt your rank, you can still get their ban on the engine permanently.
Here are some search engine optimization techniques that may have worked well in the past, but now known to penalize you if your application.
Link Exchange useless
Used to be that you could go to explore other sites that are related to yours and exchange links to help boost your link popularity. Today search engines frown on certain link exchange strategies.
The best type of link exchange is one that provides a contextual link to both parties. So instead of creating a "page-o-links" that nobody is going to read, offer your potential link partner a contextual link in an article that is related to your site. Ask your partner to do the same for you. Search engines see this link as a much better quality link than a link from a page full plate of other sites.
Say you have a website on the diet. Instead of creating a "list-o-links" on the page entitled "Resources other diet", where the list of members 300 links, write some articles related to diet and recommend some of the sites within its link partner the context of the article.
I'm not saying avoid link directories in total. There are some good, like Yahoo, JoeAnt and the Open Directory to name a few. None of these directories require a link to them and they all have a very high Google PageRank.
Doorway pages
Entry pages are small pages, keyword focused primarily on the purpose of getting the visitor to your affiliate website. Usually, they offer no value to the website as a whole, and are often cluttered with several different affiliate links.
Google is smart and can reach these pages out. You can be penalized if it is considered that these in place.
Hidden text or lowercase
This is an old tactic, and I'm surprised people still use it.
The use of white text on white background or make your text so small that it is visible to the human eye is one of the oldest tricks in the search engine book.
Many people using this technique to hide thousands of keyword phrases they wanted to conceal senior text on the very bottom or top of the page and match the background color so they are invisible. Others use a small font to add these keywords in various places throughout the site. The human eye can have difficulty finding them, but the spiders of search engines.
What you should focus on ...
Rules of unique content. Do not stress by meta tags, link lists, the number of backlinks, etc. If you want search engines to love, to build a web site with lots of exclusive content, get a couple of sites of high quality to link to you (Yahoo, Open Directory, etc) and develop a good link exchange (described above).
That's it! Keep building content and make your site as useful as possible. Very soon people will link to you voluntarily and your link popularity will begin to increase.
Write for humans, not search engines. Forget about keyword density (the ratio of a keyword phrase to the total content of the body), just write for real people. After all, it is rumored that Google is using humans to review sites anyway! Could this be the future of search engine rankings? Only time will tell.
