Should electronic cigarettes be banned from public areas?

Why is the smoking of regular cigarettes banned in public anyway?rnMost people would agree that the smoking ban was put into place in order to reduce the chances of passive smoking and the risks related to it. Many non-smokers were outraged when all sorts of studies showed that they didn’t even need to smoke themselves to experience the harmful effects of smoking. To put it simply, this led to outrage, and in the end, a ban.rnSo many of us can understand why this ban was enforced. We may not like it but we can’t deny that it is only fair to people that don’t smoke. I myself was once a smoker but still didn’t like it when I entered a smoky pub and came out smelling like an ashtray. We just simply shouldn’t have to put up with that!rnSo should electronic cigarettes also be banned for the same reason? rnWell, no! Smokeless cigarettes otherwise known as e-cigarettes, are not harmful to people in the vicinity. There is no smoke for other members of the public to inhale! Visually people may be forgiven for mistaking the ‘vapor’ for smoke but in actual fact the vapor is odorless and certainly not harmful! The liquids used in e-cigarettes usually contain some kind of flavoring including flavors such as vanilla, chocolate, caramel, coffee, and cherry. There are also e-cigarette liquids, otherwise known as ‘e-juice’ or ‘e-liquid’ which attempt to resemble particular cigarette brands such as Camel or Marlboro. Whichever flavor is utilized there is unlikely to be any offensive smells for those sitting close.rnSome of the liquids do contain nicotine but this nicotine is not present in the vapor and so does not affect anyone close by. rnBut don’t they contain chemicals which could harm others in the vicinity?rnWell there has been a lot of controversy over the chemical propylene glycol which is also found in anti-freeze. In fact there have been many headlines created to shock the public and deter people from buying smokeless cigarettes. However what the papers don’t say is that this propylene glycol is also present as a food additive in snow cones and other products, as well as an additive in asthma inhalers and nebulizers since the 1950s. So perhaps they should also ban asthma inhalers in public too?!rnIn short.............. smokeless cigarettes are not harmful to those in close proximity, are not offensive in any way, so therefore should be allowed in public areas!rnWhere can I buy such smokeless cigarettes?rnLook no further than for smokeless cigarette starter kits.
