Signs of Osteoarthritis
Typically, Osteoarthritis symptoms often develop slowly and then worsen over the time. So, it's important for us to recognize the four common signs and symptoms of osteoarthritis:
1) Joint Stiffnessr
Stiffness in a joint is closely related to osteoarthritis which occur after getting out of bed in the morning time or after sitting at a place for longer periods of time. With osteoarthritis, joint stiffness after waking up may last up to 30 mins. If your are suffering from inflammatory types of arthritis, such as rheumatoid arthritis or systemic lupus erythematosus, then stiffness can typically last for more than 45 minutes.
2) Pain in Jointsr
About one-third of the patients who have x-ray evidence of osteoarthritis have experience pain or the other symptoms of osteoarthritis. In other words, we can say that x-ray can reveal if the person is actually suffering from severe osteoarthritis in a joint, but the levels of pain that a patient feels, may differ person to person. Pain that is triggered by doing causal or daily life activities and then relieved by taking rest is a sign of osteoarthritis. This kind of fatigue and pain serves as a sign of osteoarthritis.
3) Swelling in Jointsr
Usually a small amount of fluid normally exists in joints. When a joint is affected by arthritis, increased abnormal amount of fluid in joints build up, which makes the joint swollen. The excess fluid is produced by the soft tissues that surround and line the joints.
4) Crepitusr
Crepitus in a joint indicates cartilage wear in the joint space. The term crepitus is taken directly from the Latin word crepitus, which means "a crackling sound". In terms of osteoarthritis, crepitus is a crunching feeling, like the sound of bone rubbing on bone.
If you experience any or all of the warning signs, consult with a doctor. It's important that you should not ignore these signs. By recognizing them, you can be treated and decrease the risk of disability.
