If you are currently searching for a job, you must have searched the internet for tips on how you can have a successful job interview. It is also likely that you have read various materials regarding the important job interview etiquette. Most of the elements of proper etiquette during job interviews may not matter much to you. However, it is these little things that can help you have a good and positive impression with the hiring manager or human resource personnel conducting the interview. Taking for granted interview etiquette will certainly have a huge impact on your chances of landing a job. Consider these tips before you dress up for a job interview. 1. Don’t just be on time. Be there early. You need not go to your interview an hour early, of course. What we mean is that you ought to plan ahead. It is important that you anticipate the amount of time it will take you to get to your destination. If possible, it would be beneficial if you could test out the route you’re going to take. This way, you will have an idea about the traffic and even the parking situation. You must not waste your interviewer’s time. 2. Turn your mobile phone off. Don’t think that you would appear important and valuable if your mobile phone keeps ringing or vibrating while you are being interviewed. As a matter of fact, that could lead your interviewer to thinking that you are rude and inconsiderate. Make sure that you have totally turned off your cell phone as you get inside the building. 3. Look happy and don’t get too serious. It’s only normal to get nervous during a job interview. You would also want to be good and almost perfect when you face your potential employer. But this doesn’t mean you should look serious the entire time. Of course you are happy to be there and to have the chance to get the job that you desire, so show how happy you are about this opportunity. Don’t hesitate to smile or even crack some jokes during the interview. Hiring managers know how pleasant it is to work with happy people, so make them feel that you are a good addition to their team. 4. Have a copy of your resume. Even though you have already sent in your resume, it would be a good idea if you still take with you another copy. This way, you will have an extra copy in case the interviewer lost the copy you had sent them. You may also refer to your copy if you get asked some specific questions regarding some details in your resume. 5. Remember to say “Thank you”. At the end of your job interview, extend your hand and give a firm handshake, and sincerely thank your interviewer. You should also send a thank you note immediately to express your gratitude for the opportunity they gave you. Career coaching experts see this gesture as an important factor that employers consider when choosing a job applicant.
