If you are looking for a way to learn self defense but you do not know where to turn, what to learn and how to learn it, read on and find out how to learn simple self defense. Not much need to discuss why you want to learn self defense, you know it already. Whether you live in a rough neighbourhood, work late, are often dealing with valuables or you simply do not feel safe in the street, learning self defense is the answer to feeling safer. But how do you learn it? Is there an easy way to do it or will it take years of training? There are easy way to learn it and no, it does not take years. There are plenty of martial arts schools around and if you talk to a practioner in a certain art, for example Karate or jujutsu he or she is likely to tell you that what he or she is doing is the best for self defense because of bla bla bla etc. The discussion of which martial would be the best for self defense is really old and constantly ongoing, take it with a pinch of salt as enthusiasts are often biased in their opinions. So what should you learn? The answer is; if you want to learn efficient simple self defense as quickly as possible then you should not take up traditional martial arts at all, unless you find a school which really concentrates on self defense. You see martial arts is very complex and it is about much more than just self defense. Many moves are also difficult to learn and will not always prove very effective if you do get attacked. What you should learn is simple, effective self defense that you will not forget when you need it the most and that will be really easy to use when you need it the most, that is when you are attacked in the street. This is what makes a self defense course different to a martial arts course. A self defense course will simply teach you what you really need in order to defend yourself where as a martial arts course is far more complex and contains advanced movements and techniques that sometimes will take years to master. Many martial arts instructors and martial art clubs do teach simple self defense techniques so it is good a idea to check around and see if you can find a course suitable to your needs. There is also the option of learning self defense using a dvd course, though if you can train with an instructor it would be better still. The DVD can then be used as "back-up" repeating moves and keeping it fresh in your memory. I think every one should learn some self defense. It improves your security and it will improve your confidence as well. The increased confidence will show on your face and sometimes this is enough to prevent you from being attacked in the first place.
