Alternating current is the form of current that reverses its direction several times in a second at regular interval. This form of electricity is mainly used by the electrical devices. 1. Selecting the Transformer

A transformer is a device that has two magnetically coupled wire windings- one is called the primary and the other the secondary. The primary winding of the transformer drives the main AC supply. The secondary winding of the transformer acts as the power input to the AC to DC converter.

An important factor determines the construction of the converter is the selection of the transformer winding. Since the input AC voltage is high, the corresponding conversion of to the DC voltage would also be high enough to be used in any of the electrical devices; therefore, it is necessary to scale the winding of the transformer in accordance with other to produce a lower usable voltage on the secondary winding.

The rating of the device in terms of the corresponding DC voltage is the magnitude of the AC output that is being created. For example, a 6V DC charger means the charger produces 6V of DC output for a rated AC input in case of a charger.

The next step to follow is the use of a capacitor across the output units of the rectifier. It must be taken care that during the connection, the positive terminal of the capacitor needs to be connected to the positive terminal of the regulator. The selection of the capacitor needs to be done according to the required output.

The next step is to select the commercially available voltage regulator that has the ability to control the output of the AC to DC converter to obtain the desired voltage or output. Regulator being the three pin device, has one common regulator pin, an input from the capacitor and the output of the regulator.

All the converters, be it a commercial converter like that of the industrial DC DC converter or any other converter, the converters have changed the way the industry works proceeded. The use of either a DC-to-DC converter or AC to DC converter has been developed to meet the growing need of the time.
