Sinusitis is an irritation or swelling of the tissue lining in the sinuses (cavity within a bone, especially one in the bone of face or skull connecting nasal cavities). Impaired Kapha (bodily humor) accumulates in the sinuses, thus blocking the flow of Vata (air). Impaired Pitta (fire) causes swelling and irritation of the tissues of the sinuses. All these three doshas vitiate rakta (blood) situated in the shiras (head) and leads to shiroroga (diseases of head).rnHOW AYURVEDA PREVENTS SINUSITIS? rnAyurveda suggests following a healthy regimen that does not lead to the aggravation of doshas (bio energies). To maintain this health- a good code of conduct and way of living like… Daily regimen, seasonal regimen, way of eating and diet plans etc should be practiced. Following good personal and social code of conduct helps to gain long, peaceful, happy and healthy life. rnAyurveda suggests to include daily nasya (nasal drops), dhoomapana (inhalation of fume), kavala-gandusha (gargling with medicated decoctions), and regular exercise in the daily regimen. Avoid suppression of natural urges like tears and vomiting, exposure to cold or dusty and dry weather, staying awake till late in the night, and sleeping in the daytime. Food that causes impairment of three doshas (bio-bioenergy) like oily, spicy, dry, too hot, too cold, indigestible and incompatible food are to be avoided.rnTips for Prevention from sinusitisrn• Avoid freezing drinks. • Do not stay long time in Air condition room and keep away from direct cool air to face and head. • No frequent cold water head bath, only to take warm water bath. • Dry the hair straight away after bath. • Avoid severe sun rays and freeze climate. • Do not eat jam-packed stomach and avoid fried and oily foods. • Avoid chocolate, ice creams, milk sweets. • Morning walk in fresh air. • Avoid cigarette and alcohol drinks. Ayurveda treatment for sinusitis:rnAyurvedic treatment of sinusitis involves liquefying and expelling aggravated doshas with the use of certain Ayurvedic herbs and diet as well as nasal therapies and applications.  The Panchakarma treatment of Nasya is quite valuable in dealing with sinusitis.rnNasya with Shad Bindu Tailam or Anu tailam: This nasal drops will reduce nose congestion and will remove the blockage of the path from the sinuses. These oils initially may provoke bouts of sneezing and running of water from the nose.rnDhumapana with Haridra churnam etc. can clear the pathway and reduce the kapha. Simplest method is take a piece of dry turmeric burn in fire. Off the fire and inhale the smoke.rnNasal steam inhalation with addition of few drops of Mixture of Camphor, Menthol, and etc. steam should be inhaled twice daily. This will reduce congestion.  Ayurvedic Medicines - Maha Laxmi Vilas Ras or Lakshmi Vilas Ras : Symptoms like headache, pain in forehead, nasal allergy are treated with the above medicine. These will build up the immunity if used for a long period. Chitraka Hareetaki lahyam: Consume this lehyam 2 tsp with warm milk twicern Yoga for sinusitis: Jalaneti (Nasal Cleansing with Water): Jalaneti is quite effective Yogic practice to cure headache, cough & cold and sinusitis. Basically, it’s the nasal cleansing exercise with halfhearted salted water.rnPranayamas like Kapalabhati, Bhastrika, Anulom Vilom Pranayama, Suryabhedi Pranayama are useful.rnYogasanas that are useful include Bhujangasana (Cobra Pose),Sarvangasana (All Limbs Pose), Uttanasana etc.
