rnWhether you are moving to the next town over or halfway across the country, planning a move can be tough. In addition to packing all of your supplies, the thought of getting used to a completely different environment can be quite stressful. It is a smart idea to start planning for your move at least a few weeks ahead of time; doing so will make the process much less stressful. Here are some useful moving tips you can use. Be Prepared It is important to make the right changes before you move. Ask your dentists, doctors and pharmacists to transfer your medical records to your new location. Also, contact your landlord or real estate agent to find out how to have the utilities turned on in your new home. Make sure to have all of your utilities turned off in your current home before you move. Keep Important Documents Organized Put all of your important documents in a special folder in a dubbed spot; doing this will prevent you from losing these documents. This folder should contain mortgage documents, leases, moving notes and receipts. Sort Your Belongings Go through all of your belongings, and figure out what you want to keep and what you want to get rid of. If you have not used an item in over a year, you should consider leaving it behind to save space. Have a garage sale before you move to sell your unwanted items; it will be nice making a little extra money before you move. Also, decide which items in your home are the most valuable. Make sure to take these items with you in your vehicle to prevent anything from happening to them. Pack Your Items Once you have sorted your belongings, it is time to start packing. Place all of your items in boxes, and label each box with its contents and the room they will belong in. Make sure to place the heavier items at the bottom of the boxes. If a box is too heavy, take some of the items out and put them in another box. Consider Hiring a Moving Company It will cost you a little extra money, but hiring a moving company is worth it. Having professional movers move your items will make your life a lot less stressful. These movers are experienced in moving the heaviest items, so you don’t have to lift a finger. Make Sure Your Kids and Pets Don’t Get in the Way Professional movers do not want rambunctious dogs and kids running around as they are trying to move your belongings. They will get distracted, and the kids and pets might get hurt. It is a good idea to have a family member or friend watch your kids and pets. You will be able to get a lot more done when your kids and pets are not around. Try not to stress out too much about your move. If you are prepared, there is no reason your move should not go smoothly.
