Skin care is just as important for men as it is for women. Men may not seem so concerned with it because they don’t go around buying as many skin care products as women do, but they actually have similar concerns with women.

Men, for example, tend to have oily skin later in the day. When they’re out on a day’s work, especially if they are labourers and are exposed to the sunlight, heat and dust, their foreheads and cheeks would start getting shiny and oily by the time the sun sets. Even those who are working in offices and are lucky to have air conditioning may still end up with a slightly oily face. The bigger problem for corporate men though would probably be dry skin since they’d be in air conditioning all day long.

For these reasons, men need to cleanse their skin every evening after they arrive from work. They need to get rid of the impurities that had accumulated during the past 12 hours. Since they don’t wear makeup, soap and water will already suffice. There are also facial washes and soaps made specifically for men. There’s also another important reason why cleansing and even exfoliating is also important for men. When there’s a layer of grime and dead skin cells left in the skin, a razor’s blades will not glide through the skin as smoothly as they should. That can result to an uneven shave and prompt men to press their razors, possibly nicking their skin in the process.

Speaking of shaving, many men have to do this every day. Some even have to do it twice a day. Shaving keeps their face looking clean and neat, free from bristles and gruff. Unfortunately, it also leaves the skin dry and irritated. Ever heard of razor burns? They can be a pain—literally and figuratively. That is why men also need to have some moisturizer especially formulated for them.

So here’s a rundown of the daily skin care routine men should develop:

1.Cleanse your face with soap and warm water. Follow it up with men’s skin toner and/or cleanser. This will take care of the deep-seated dirt and dead skin cells that don’t come off with a simple soap and water wash. Thorough cleansing also promotes skin rejuvenation, which keeps the skin looking fresh and healthy.

2.If you have oily skin, choose a cleanser that’s formulated to normalize excessive oil production.

3.For shaving, choose a sharp razor that will make one stroke sufficient for removing facial hair. If you have to go back for seconds or thirds, you may need to have new blades.

4.Use shaving cream with moisturizers. Leave it on for a couple of minutes before actually shaving so that the bristles will soften and get cut easily. That said, make sure you have ample time for shaving and don’t have to rush. You could end up cutting your skin.

5.If you do get cuts, use aftershave afterwards to prevent infection. There are aftershaves with moisturizers too, which would be great in keeping your skin from getting dry after shaving.
