There are many natural extracts, each with distinct characteristics and properties, used in healthful skin care products. These natural extracts include: allantoin, green tea, rosemary, cornflower, cucumber, and Roman chamomile. Combined, these natural extracts help provide a healthful face cream for absolutely beautiful skin.
Allantoin is a healing, moisturizing, soothing, anti-irritating, keratolytic and non-toxic agent useful in dermatological and cosmetic preparation. It’s an excellent raw material to use for dry skin because it protects against harsh ingredients like detergents. It is a cell-proliferating agent that stimulates healthy tissue formation. It acts as a chemical debrider of necrotic and scaling tissue while softening skin. It is used to treat: skin ulcers, scalds, wounds, burns, sunbu
s, carbuncles, acne and skin eruptions, fissures, abrasions, impetigo, eczema and psoriasis. It is quite effective at low concentrations.
Green tea extract is a powerful skin care anti-oxidant due to its catechin content. Clinical studies have shown green tea to prevent or at least postpone the onset of cancer and heart disease. This is attributed to the catechin component’s ability to penetrate into a cell, protecting the cell from free radicals and associated damage. Green tea is also incorporated into anti-aging formulas because of its anti-oxidant properties. It has excellent anti-inflammatory and antibacterial qualities. It rejuvenates skin, prevents sun damage and promotes elasticity. It can be found in sunscreens based on its ability to extend the life of the product’s SPF.
Rosemary extract has an attribute to the promotion of healing wounds. It is said to have astringent, toning, stimulating, deodorant, antiseptic, reactivating, antibacterial, softening and invigorating properties. It helps improve blood circulation thereby aiding in skin regeneration. According to some sources it has antioxidant properties making it effective for anti-aging products.
Cornflower extract is beneficial for normal skin and skin care products used around the eyes. It has healing properties, particularly in the case of bruises.
Cucumber extract has moisture-binding, moisture-regulating, tightening, anti-itching, refreshing, softening, soothing, astringent and anti-inflammatory properties. It contains amino acids and organic acids claimed to strengthen the skin’s acid mantle. This extract can be used in aftershave preparations, eye treatment products and treatment for oily skin.
Roman chamomile extract is used in skin care products for its anti-inflammatory properties. When added to creams and lotions it soothes irritated skin and reduces redness and swelling due to rashes or other irritations.
A healthful face cream, combining these natural extracts and more, provides for absolutely beautiful skin.
