Spiritual Healing - How it works
I am often asked how this stuff really works.
Various answers, from, “Everything is energy, originally,” to, “Because you believe it does,” are actually very accurate, but do only enough to either whet the appetite, or breed frustration.
The answer is often couched in incomprehensible aphorisms because the truth is so different to what we have been led to believe.
Science and Religion have given us such distorted explanations for how reality works that the truth tends not to make immediate sense to people.
Even New Age explanations tend to only offer half-truths about energy anatomy and reality creation that at first become a bewildering if exciting new language, but soon they become short on both accuracy and utility.
The truth is that Empowered Healing works because it lets you make up the rules.
Now, just before you throw up your hands in disgust at another Zen-like, meaningless aphorism, let me explain.
Let me do so by starting at the beginning.
The beginning is actually outside of space-time. In fact, it is completely outside of physicality (so there is no ‘beginning,’ because there is no time in which it began. But, it is the ‘beginning’ of our story, so…)
In the beginning we were one with the Divine. We were sparks of consciousness and love, enjoying our being and the Divine connection that was so inimical to us.
It was very dynamic, and so never got boring - we changed and grew all the ‘time’, changing with respect to how we ‘were’, always experiencing and becoming more and more. (We changed with respect to possibility, not with respect to time. This is not something easy to comprehend or explain while we are inside of time).
And we were consciousness, but we were not self-aware consciousness. We wanted to become self-aware. We wanted to knowingly choose who we were becoming, to be aware of the process of growing.
There were many different ways to learn to become self-aware. Some of us chose to do so through a physical universe. So, we created our physical adventure park of space-time, and created lives to live in it, all in order to learn and grow and enjoy doing so.
We made up all the rules of space-time, and all the rules of life and the living of it, and we agreed to (largely) abide by them, so that we could operate together in meaningful and somewhat predictable ways.
It was meant to be fun – a wonderfully enjoyable adult learning center for growing and learning, and originally, it was - a learning center with awesome facilities and limitless fun.
Some things went a little wrong, but more of that later.
For now, in thinking about how it all works, it can be valuable to use an analogy.
Space-time is a bit like cyberspace. Cyberspace does not exist, but it seems to – one can interact with others in cyberspace as though it really did exist. The analogy can be quite good in many ways, particularly if we make it more specific.
Imagine that you are playing an online game with some friends. You might not play computer games, or you may play many, but either way, you probably know that such things exist. Say that you are playing this game and it is an adventure game, and you and your friends each have various ‘characters’ that you choose to be for the length of the game. Your ‘character’ can be a man or woman, tall or short, good or bad, all by your own choice. And the way you interact with others and the ‘world’ of the game has everything to do with the ‘character’ you have chosen to be – the game is designed so that it appears that one character can hit or touch another when they come into proximity.
Of course, they are not touching each other. The characters do not even exist (only the players do). But the rules of the game, and the computer monitor and speakers that we use, together make it appear that the characters not only exist, but are touching each other (our computer monitor and speakers are much like our five senses). When one character ‘hits’ another, the second is ‘affected’, and the player makes it respond, quite possibly, in kind.
So, in our world of physicality, there really isn’t any space-time at all. It just appears that there is, because we have made up the ‘rules’ of our world (our physical, space-time universe) to make it appear that, when we touch someone else, they feel it.
We are actually there in the background, the sparks of consciousness that we are, ‘enjoying’ living for a time in a physical universe.
An important point for all of us who have experienced pain or been seriously ill – if we are not ‘enjoying’ it as much as we thought we would, it is only because we made some mistakes with our playing (imagine taking the game too seriously). Sometimes, we have created more of a ‘thriller’, a ‘horror’, or a ‘melodrama’ kind of life, kind of game. But it was our creation, our rules.
Perhaps the biggest mistake was that we forgot that it was just a game, and a game that could be extremely fun while we learned what we wanted to learn.
But this is where some in the New Age let us down – they say it is our fault that we created so much pain. It is not.
We just made a mistake: We came to believe the game was real – and when the stakes went up, so did the level of threat, the level of fear, and the level of pain that we felt while playing it.
It is not our fault at all – the mistakes have just been handed down to us by our parents (who had it handed down to them) and by society, religion and science. It is not our fault, but it is we who can change things.
So, back to Spiritual Healing.
Biological remedies work because we put it in the rules that they would.
Spiritual Healing works because it is our way of getting our hands on the rule-book, and then rewriting it.
Spiritual Healing helps us get outside of the ‘cyberspace’ of space-time. We get back to ourselves as sparks of consciousness, even if just a little bit at first (perhaps a little more if we are with someone who is experienced in this). Here, as the ‘players,’ we can change the nature of the whole game, instantaneously, by choosing to be a (slightly) different character, or by changing (a little) some of the rules (such as giving our ‘characters’ more ‘life'). The more we are able to free ourselves of our belief in the reality of the game, the easier we can do this, and the greater are the changes that we can make.
But, it is a balancing act.
Imagine that someone is playing the game and then gets tired of playing. They tell themselves that it is just a game, and nothing in it really matters. So, they just put down their joystick or game controller and do nothing in the game ‘world’. Of course, the game goes very badly for them, and unfortunately, they suffer.
The trick is to keep playing the game, while learning how to play more enjoyably, and while learning to take it less seriously.
And … by using Spiritual Healing, we can play the game while learning how to change the rules whenever we want to –
Living a life full of love and joy, that really works.
