Every industry today is facing stiff competition today and it become bit hard to provide satisfactory finished product to the market. Steel cutting play vital role in metal industry and therefore, these companies use different techniques and tools for cutting structural steel, and the type of technique and tool you choose depends on the job. There are few techniques that involve computerized industrial-purpose machinery while others involve handheld devices.

Methods Used for Steel Cutting

Plasma Cutting – It is good idea to use plasma cutters to cut shapes out of structural steel. Plasma cutters utilize a localized cutting cone on a torch that blows an inert gas or compressed air at high-pressure while an electrical arc turns the gas into plasma.

This plasma melts the structural steel without leaving chips and moves at enough speed to blow the melting steel away from the cutting point. Most hand-held plasma torches can cut through steel that is about 2 inches thick. Computer-controlled plasma torches cutters are used for industrial applications which require heavy tasks to be done on time.

Laser Cutting – Laser cutting is greatly used to cut steel for executing most industrial manufacturing tasks. This method of steel cutting mostly utilizes a high-power laser beam to pierce the steel, creating a starting point for the cut. The high-power laser beam burns the structural steel without warping, melting it away at the cutting point and leaving a fine edge. This method of steel cutting involves different techniques such as melt and blow and reactive cutting. High-power laser beam which use oxygen to cut steel in different shapes is used for steel cutting. Undoubtedly, the current laser cutting technology encourages the engineers to create even more sophisticated and serviceable projects and discover fresh ways for steel application in brand new products.

Abrasive High-Pressure Water Jets – This method of steel cutting is widely used in occupied buildings like hospitals, hotels or office buildings because the water jet does not leave gas, dust or slag and does not cause vibrations that can harm sensitive equipment in the building. Cutting steel using abrasive high-pressure water jets involves high-pressure plunger pumps that push the water and small particles of an abrasive such as silica sand at a point on the steel to create a cut. Added control button help the engineers to cut angles, curves or shapes into structural steel plates. Use abrasive high-pressure water jets underwater where plasma cutters and laser cutters would not work.

These all steel cutting methods are widely used in the cutting industry by the engineers and help them in making the tasks easier and giving perfection in their tasks.
