A new tooth should fit and function just like a natural tooth. Nobody wants to have a tooth replaced and having to do it is a difficult thing to deal with.rnThere has been new progress made in dental care technology. The options you have can help solve this problem, but they may not all work the same way and you need to pick the best one for you. How do you go about replacing just one tooth? The dental bridge would be a great option if all you need is a single tooth. It is specifically made to just to replace the lone missing tooth. Bridges are more popular for this and it does not cause you to be concerned that you need a full set replacement. What needs to be done to replace it? First it is relatively minimal invasive surgery. Hopefully your tooth already missing, but if there is another problem you may need to have it extracted first. After some healing time you will be ready for the process. More than one dentist may work on that area needing replacement. They will usually plan your visits and treatments with the general dentist or prothsodontist. They will also decide how many you made need and what type of implant to use. These are not suitable for smokers. You will be evaluated in advance before under going further treatments. Your first step will be implanting the screw or cylinder like object into your gum and jawbone. It is relatively small and really does look like a screw. You may also receive some antibiotic's during this time before the procedure takes place, usually about one hour. This will eventually hold the tooth in place. After this takes place, you need a sufficient amount of time to take place so that the implant and bone in your jaw can join together. After all the new artificial tooth needs to hold on to something! Not to worry, as during this time you will have a temporary tooth that will be worn over the space. This can be a long timeframe of up to six months for it to attach to each other. The second step will be to uncover the implant and give you an extension. They will be removing the first screw and another "cap" will help heal the area on which the bridge will be placed. This will take another couple of weeks until the gums will be able to heal. Sometimes this step may be skipped, as some systems do not require this. Some dental office are now using this system. They automatically come equipped with that extension piece already attached to it. You would be advised if this could work better for you. If so, this would eliminate the second surgery. Now it's time for the final stage. Receiving the replacement tooth called "the crown". It will be made to fit your mouth by the dentist and will be attached to the small metal post that is now in your gums and jawbone.rnThis type of surgery is pretty successful about 90% of the time. As with any surgery you are at risk for infections and occasionally an implant can fail, along with breakage. If it should fail from infection, it can be easily replaced.
