To be become a notary public in the United States is not a hard undertaking because he or she does not need specialized training or experience to become one. It is one job that is quite easy to do, only requiring the person who wants to provide notarial services to tackle and pass a short test, and to undergo background check. This means, the authority given to a notary public does not go beyond the duties of a lawyer but instead, he or she will only act as an unbiased witness to a document that needs to be valid, legal and binding.
For those individuals who have the interest to be a licensed public notary in the United States, below are some basic steps to follow:
1.) Filling out an application form – application process may vary from state to state. The applicant is required to enter his name, address, age, and etc.
2.) The applicant is obliged to pay a certain fee to the commissioning authority.
3.) Applicant has to take an oath of office.
4.) An applicant must consult his or her local official or contact the National Notary Association for details. This is because there are states in the United States that will require an applicant to take an educational course, or pass a test and / or secure a notary bond.
There are many states in the United States that offer classes for individuals who are interested to join the wagon of public notaries.
To sum up everything, to become a notary public is an easy endeavor. So, he or she must not expect to earn much. Nevertheless, he or she should remember that the services offered by a public notary are very relevant to every individual who needs authentication for her or his legal document to be valid and bind.
