There are a lot of smokers in the United States. The number is at an alarming 45 million people and a lot of the people who have been smoking for years and are now realizing the potential health repercussions are desperate to quit but are now finding it very difficult. In fact, some people have been quitting for decades but they have not been able to kick the habit just yet. This is the reason why some people are looking to stop smoking with hypnotherapy. There are some skeptics thought who are asking questions like, how can I stop smoking with hypnotherapy? Is it safe to stop smoking with hypnotherapy? How exactly does hypnotherapy work? In this article we will answer these questions. Hypnosis involved being put in a hypnotic state, which is nothing complicated at all. It is simply being put in a state of relaxation. Once you are in this state of relaxation you will then be given hypnotic commands by the person who is performing the hypnotherapy. Again, hypnotic commands are nothing complicated. They are just commands that are said in the present tense and are positive and they are also congruent with what you are trying to accomplish. After about 8 minutes of inducing you into hypnosis (that is getting you to relax) and about 12 minutes of giving you suggestions you will then be taken out of hypnosis in about 2 minutes or even less. The reason we use hypnosis is because it is a much faster and easier way to access the subconscious mind and give it suggestions. The subconscious mind is the part of the mind we are trying to influence when we want to quit smoking. This is because it is the part of the mind where habits are created and stored and it is also the part of the mind where associations or anchors are made and stored. Because of the nicotine that is attached to the receptors in your brain, whenever you smoke you experience good feelings. When you do this long enough your subconscious mind begins to associate good feelings and stress relief to smoking. So whenever you feel stressed you reach for another smoke and this is why it is very hard to not smoke. Hypnosis aims to break that association over time. This is done by simply creating new anchors which link smoking with bad things such as repulsive smells etc. After some time of this you will begin to feel less of an urge to smoke which then makes smoking cessation easier and this is how you stop smoking with hypnotherapy. It is completely safe because at any moment during the hypnosis session you can opt out of it or get up and leave the room. I have done this numerous times when something has come to my attention while I am in a hypnotic trance. As such the hypnotist cannot make you do anything because you are perfectly conscious of what he or she is saying. Hypnosis is not perfect though and some people have not been able to quit smoking with it. You can find out more about how using hypnosis to quit smoking stacks up with other methods of quitting smoking by reading this article here.
