Storing Your Remote Control Helicopter

Flying your rc helicopter can provide you with endless hours of fun. A lot of people buy these toy birds for a lot of money and learn everything they need to about how to fly them safely and appropriately. What a lot of people don’t bother to look into is how will be the best way to store them so that they remain in tip top shape for as long as possible. These are hard economic times that we are living in and it is always best to take care of what you have instead of having to invest in another one or repair. Below are some great pointers about how you can go about storing your model chopper.
• Away from weather elements – One might think it to be common sense to store your remote control helicopter away from weather elements but you would be surprised how many people do not do it. So many people, both kids and adults leave their helis outside where they are always exposed to weather elements like sun, rain and snow. These weather elements can lead to the quick degradation of these expensive toys. The sun can melt plastic components and the rain and snow can lead to the rusting of the metallic parts.
• Disassembled – If you are one of those enthusiasts who decided to cop a remote control helicopter that you had to assemble yourself, depending on how frequently you use it, it is sometimes wiser to store it disassembled. If you are going to use it every week then this is not necessary. If however you intend to store it away for example for two whole seasons, it is better to disassemble all the parts and store them somewhere safe. You have to keep all the parts together in one place so that you make sure that you do not lose any of the pieces.
• Clean before storage – It is always a wise idea to clean up your remote control helicopter before you store it away. It is a good habit to pick up as you sometimes never know when will be the next time you fly it again. This will keep you from coming back one day and finding damage like pieces have rusted together.

• Regular maintenance – Depending on the type of remote control helicopter model that you have and how frequently you fly it, regular maintenance is of uttermost importance. For example, if it has a nitro engine, if you are not going to use it for a whole winter, it is always advisable to run the engine every few weeks to make sure that it stays in good shape. You do not even have to take it out to fly. Just switch on the engine and let the blades spin for a few minutes.

• Away from pests and pets – Various pests and pets can chew away at your model plane rendering it useless so keep it in a safe location.

• Safe from knocking about – Do not store it in a box somewhere that people will always knock it about every time they pass by it. This will keep pieces from coming loose or accidents like the box falling and breaking the expensive parts.
