Every day there are more couples who are in need of a specialist acudirs treatments such as IVF / FIV. Unemployment, the death of a close relative, the couple continued fighting, divorce or even legal or financial problems are probably the main events responsible for the so-called psychological stress. According to a recent study, this diagnosis can cause infertility in men. While previous work has suggested a cause and effect relationship between stress and infertility idiopathic (one in which we can not identify the apparent cause of reproductive impairment), this new study revisits and updates a line of research that argues with increasing evidence that male fertility may be influenced by psychosocial factors. Those responsible for the work published in the journal Fertility and Sterility analyzed semen samples from 704 fertile men who had to answer a questionnaire that asked whether they had experienced some stressful event in the past three months. Those who said they had suffered at least two stressful events showed a significant decline in quality, motility and morphology of sperm compared with those who reported having experienced situations of anxiety or emotional stress. Although still a long way to go in the demonstration of cause and effect relationship between the social-emotional and fertility, it is undeniable that this link exists and is sensitive enough to trace. As an example, it is worth remembering that in most cases calling for a semen sample in a laboratory, usually do worse than those obtained spontaneously. Undoubtedly, the fact of collecting a sample intentionally imposes some pressure or nervousness which leads to poorer outcomes. Between 10 and 30 percent of men have erection problems or difficulty achieving orgasm when you get to a semen sample, insemination or treatment of high complexity. We always say that the intensity of orgasm is correlated with the product obtained: that is, to greater stress at the time of sample collection, the worse the quality of the semen. That's why, during the diagnosis stage, you should not miss the questions that probe the psychological context, family and social situation in which he finds himself questions about fertility problems. Only then will a full review, which will find the most appropriate method to achieve conception.
