One of the most dramatic ways to increase your profits online is to increase your traffic to your website as the saying goes 'cast your bread upon the water etc' the more traffic we drive to our sites equals more profit and more customers.
It shouldn't be a secret, however, but it is to many of us - 'how on earth can I increase the traffic to my website' well, simply put increase your natural search engine rankings Google calls it SEO. 'What is that' you might ask - it's Search Engine Optimization - Yes, I've heard of that, but that is only for the geeks, isn't it? I'm not in that league - but you can be my friend, you too can do SEO so let's look at it a little more closely.
You see the closer you go the top of the rankings on Google, the more traffic migrates to your website, and it's exponential, for instance if the third position on Google gets 10 visits a day, the second will get 100 and the top spot might even get 1000 visits.
Google is always changing it's perameters but currently Google doesn't recognise websites when ranking sites, instead it deals with pages so we need to optimize every page individually for a specific keyword or phrase. If you do that (which is in effect Quality Content Pressure) it will cause your main domain to rank higher with it's more general and competitive keyword, up into the rankings.
Each page should have a narrow focus or in layman's terms - a purpose. Knowing this helps you to concentrate on the page being about one particular subject. A good example of this would be, say a horse trainer in Cheltenham, then you might have a page hierachy something like this:

Horse Training in General
Breaking in a Horse
Basic Handling Disciplines
Jumping
And so on....................

Each page would be optimized for the exact and specific topic it covers. Be disciplined in this and your main domain will begin to rise on Google's rankings, and incidentally don't ever attempt things like backlinks, because pointing things at a page with no relevance to the keyword is a waste of time and money. Every page must be optimzed with the on-page criteria before you think of any of that cool stuff.
