Do research the history of the trade show before registering to attend. You want to know the show attendance for the past five years to see if it attracts the appropriate amount of foot traffic. A small show with a large number of vendors will equate into a small amount of customer contacts. Look for a trade show that is easy for attendees to reach or attached to a convention where the attendees are staying on-site. A good trade show will offer you the opportunity to access contact information for the registered attendees. This allows you to create a pre-show promotion that you send by mail or email to plug your company and that you will have a trade show booth. Offering a special promotion for people that bring the flyer or email to the trade show booth will help increase the foot traffic you see during the show.

Do prepare trade show displays that are attractive, eye appealing and do not clutter the booth space. Trade show booths that are with a professional appearance will attract more people than those with sloppy signage and cluttered tables. Choose retractable banners with vivid graphics or a freestanding display backdrop to highlight the products or services you have available. Use the banners as a means of grabbing interest, and then you can use your sales skills to pull the visitor in as a potential customer. Once you have contact information from an interested trade show visitor, always follow up with them. You captured the contact information for a reason, so do not forget to use it for your benefit. Take notes while talking to visitors to make it easy to start a conversation when you make a follow up contact.

Avoid cluttering your trade show display with excessive handout materials. Choose quality brochures or handout that presents your product or service in a neat and concise manner. Potential customers want to know quickly what your business offers and how it will benefit them. These are the points you need to highlight in your materials. You do not want to hand too many pieces of paper to a person so they have to shove them into a bag. This gets your business information lost and lowers your chance of securing them as a customer. Successful trade show booths will give the visitor what they need and make them want to come back for more. Make sure that you have enough copies of your trade show literature so that you do not run out. Use the attendee history to judge the appropriate number of brochures to bring for your trade show display.

Make sure that all booth staff are dressed professionally and have the skills to work with people. Avoid having too many people in the booth since this makes it look crowded and unapproachable. Train the booth staff in the appropriate behavior when representing the company in the trade show booth. Clean trade show displays have staff that do not lounge in the display chairs or talk amongst themselves instead of people walking by the booth. The goal of the booth staff is to pull visitors into the booth and get them interested in the product or service offered by the company.

These simple tips will increase success with using trade show booths for advertising and marketing of the business. Taking the time to prepare the booth and trades show display materials make your business stand out for potential customers.
