Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) can be helped greatly by
eating a balanced GERD diet that is low in acidic foods.
Gastroesophageal reflux disease occurs when stomach contents, either
food or liquid, leaks back up into the esophagus. Symptoms can include
heartburn, chest pain, difficulty in swallowing and regurgitation of food.
Eventually stomach acid can erode the esophagus causing painful sores
and ulcers.
It is widely known and recognized that an effective GERD diet (a diet
structured to reduce the occurrence of GERD symptoms) should include rna higher amount of alkaline foods to prevent damage caused by
stomach acid reflux. Another key to reducing reflux is not overeating
and disciplining yourself for portion control.
When trying to implement and stick to a GERD diet one of the most
important factors that will help you continue to eat right is planning.
And just like in any other areas of life - failing to plan is planning to fail.
Not only can spending an hour or two a month planning your GERD diet
help you feel better physically and reduce your symptoms, it can also
save you hours wandering around the supermarket, wasting money on
food you will never use to cook. It will also save you time and give you
peace of mind throughout the month knowing your meals are already
planned and organized.
There are a number of ways you can implement meal planning to assist
you with your GERD diet. Even if you can't hire a personal chef or
assistant to do it for you it is not that hard and time consuming. You
can utilize a monthly calendar, plan meals for each day and easily
create shopping lists so that you only buy what you need. Using your
computer you can easily save recipes and menus that can be reused in
future months.
Creating meals and menus has never been easier with literally hundreds
of websites offering thousands and thousands of free recipes for every
appetite, style of food and diet type...including GERD diets. Break out
the ingredients for each meal in your GERD diet and save them. Perhaps
this is easiest done in a spreadsheet that can then be used to print a
shopping list. Sticking to your shopping list will prevent you from being
tempted to buy junk food or highly acidic food and from buying items
on impulse that will sit on your shelves or in your fridge until you
eventually just throw them away.
You may not be home all day, each day for your meals so make sure
you plan in advance for snacks and meals that you can take with you
to avoid faulting on your GERD diet and regretting the consequences
later.
Developing and planning a well balanced GERD diet as well as natural
health remedies are an essential foundation for controlling and
overcoming many health problems. When looking for ways to treat GERD
permanently, the most important thing you can do is learn. You need to
learn what is happening to your body and how your digestive tract works.
By learning these things, you will have a much better chance of successfully
treating this disease.
