Countless charms abound the desert state of Rajasthan and a trip to Udaipur remains one of the best parts of visiting Rajasthan. Rightfully decorated with epithets such as ‘City of Lakes’ and ‘Venice of the East’, Udaipur is home to three interconnected lakes namely Fateh Sagar Lake, Lake Pichhola Swaroop Sagar Lake. Like most other cities of Rajasthan, this destination is also full of magnificent palaces, gardens and temples. While visiting Udaipur, quite a few tourists also include trips to Mount Abu and Jodhpur in their itineraries. This article will familiarise you some of the most popular tourist places in Udaipur and also shed some light on Mount Abu and Jodhpur. Tour of Udaipur City Palace Billed as the top attraction by almost every Udaipur travel guide, this wonderful structure was built by Maharana Uday Singh II. Overlooking the Lake Pichola, it rises to a height of about 30 meters from the lake and is full of charming structures. Marble and granite has been lavishly used throughout the palace complex along with intricate wall paintings, murals, mirrorwork, silver wok, and balconies and towers. Some of the most popular attractions adorning the complex include Sheesh Mahal, Amar Vilas, Fatehprakash Palace, and Durbar Hall. No prizes for guessing that it is easily one of the Udaipur must see places. A Fateh Sagar Lake Journey An Udaipur tour is incomplete without a visit to the city’s well known lakes and one of the most popular of these is the Fateh Sagar Lake. This an artificial lake dating back to 1678. It lies on the the North of Lake Pichola and has three small islands. The largest of these islands is a popular tourist haunt and is known as the Nehru Park. Similarly, another island has a beautiful public park and is famous for its water jet fountain. The last of the islands is home to the Udaipur Solar Observatory. With all these beautiful attractions, it is definitely worthwhile to include Fateh Sagar Lake in your travel planner for Udaipur. Trip to Gulab Bagh and Zoo A visit to Gulab Bagh is another highlight of one’s Udaipur trip planner. Aptly named Gulab Bagh, this place is a rose garden, which was built on the orders of Maharaja Sajjan Singh. The garden is a popular place amongst history buffs too due to a library, which is home to a fine ancient collection of handwritten books and manuscripts. This is not all. Families with kids also often plan a trip to Gulab Bagh as there is a zoo here, complete with tigers, Chinkara gazelle and leopards. A mini train chugs its way across certain areas of the garden and the zoo. Tourist Places around Udaipur As mentioned before, a couple of interesting tourist places around Udaipur are Mount Abu and Jodhpur. Here is a quick look at how to plan your tour to these destinations from Udaipur. A Mount Abu Trip The Udaipur to Mount Abu distance is about 165 km. You can choose udaipur to mount abu bus services or hire a car for your journey.
