Get a safe sunless suntan this spring with the sun laboratories sunless suntan. Sun labs sunless suntan products allow you to get attractive sun-bronzed skin without risking the damaging UV radiations from the sun. The preparations will leave your skin glowing naturally and looking years younger and healthier.
How Suntan Lotions Work
The skin is made up of two main layers: the outer epidermis and the inner dermis each of which is divided into further layers. The tanning process is usually confined to the layers of the epidermis. While traditional suntans affect the deepest layer of the epidermis (stratum basale), most sunless-tanning products affect only the outermost layer - the stratum corneum.
The main active ingredient in most tanning sprays is dihydroxyacetone, DHA for short. DHA is a colorless sugar that interacts with the dead cells located in the stratum corneum to produce a color change in the latter, leading to a bronzed or tanned look. In addition to DHA, many sunless sun tan sprays also contain bronzing dyes that enhance the tan thus created.
Tanning accelerators are another popular variety of self-tanning products. These preparations usually contain an amino acid called tyrosine, a naturally occurring component of the human body that helps stimulate melanin formation. The topical use of tyrosine on the skin causes the melanin to develop faster, thereby accelerating the tanning process.
Directions for Using Sunless Suntan Sprays
Sunless tanning products come in a variety of forms: sprays, lotions, gels, mousses, wipes and even in the shape of tanning pills. While some tanning products are formulated for use all over the body, others may be developed for specific areas such as the back or the face. Choose a product that is no more than a couple of shades darker than your natural skin tone. Don't go for a too dark shade as it will not look natural.
You can choose either a DHA-based product or a temporary bronzer depending on how long you want the tan to last. DHA-based tans generally last for 3-10 days, gradually fading as the days pass. Temporary bronzers on the other hand are just like make up - you can apply them for a special occasion or a party and then wash off using soap and water. Bronzers are also great for pepping up a fading spray tan.
In order to get the best results, make sure that your skin is properly cleansed and exfoliated before applying the sun sunless suntan spray. Take a shower beforehand; using a mild scrub to remove dead skin cells and make the skin smoother and more receptive to the spray.
Once you have dried yourself thoroughly, apply the spray tan in long, even strokes holding the can approximately 10 inches from the body. As a final point, using a tanning product can leave your skin more vulnerable to solar radiation, especially UV rays so a regular application of sunscreen lotion is essential for skin protection.
To conclude, Suntan sprays darken the body's natural skin tone to mimic the tanning process that otherwise occurs as a result of extended sun exposure. Sunless suntan products were developed to help people achieve a lovely tanned body without subjecting themselves to harmful solar radiations and risking wrinkles or even cancer of the skin.
