Syllabus of IAS Exam

Civil services tops in the list of highest in demand career options. It is a dream career that no one can resist. The jobs it offers give you power, privilege, money and what not. It is one of the many services offered by Civil services and is very popular amongst the youth of today. The IAS exams are very difficult and cover a vast syllabus which requires months to cover up. Current affair questions and vocabulary are also a part of the syllabus which make the exam more challenging. The question paper, unlike other competitive exams, is very tough and is incomparable to any other exam.
The IAS exam cover a huge syllabus, which often includes subjects from different areas. Your preparation method should be such, that you give equal importance to all the subjects. However, spend more time on those ones which carry more weight age in the exam. Following is the syllabus for IAS prelims question paper and IAS mains question paper:
IAS prelims syllabus:
There are two compulsory papers of 200 marks each. The syllabus for the IAS prelims exam includes a variety of subjects which are vast. There are many subjects like Geology, Political Science, History of India, General Studies, Environmental Issues Of India, Geography, Economic and Social Development etc. There has been a recent change in the syllabus of IAS prelims. Instead of the optional subjects that existed earlier, CSAT has been added to the syllabus. The question paper would consist of common questions which would include power test and speed test.
IAS mains syllabus:
It has a section of essays which carries 200 marks, in the question paper. Also, two optional papers and one general paper of 300 marks each. There are two language papers, one which includes the Indian Language and the other in General English of class 10th. These papers do not carry marks; however it is necessary to clear them. There are also optional subjects like Maths and Statistics, Mechanical Engineering, Medical Science, Commerce and Management etc.
It is very evident that the syllabus that is included in the IAS exam covers various areas and subjects. Also the inclusion of current affair questions and vocabulary make the question paper tougher.
