Gynecological problems happen to every woman at some point in their life. The problem can be as minor as irritation from poor hygiene, or as large as cervical cancer. Cervical cancer is a very common disease among women. Often, it is difficult to detect as symptoms may not be apparent at the beginning. However, it begins as a condition called dysplasia, which is detected through a pap smear and can be completely cured. If it is detected at this stage, cervical cancer will not progress. It is very important to visit a women’s doctor for regular pap smears, as they can detect the cancer at an early stage. There are different types of treatments available, but they are dependent on the individual condition of the patient.

Symptoms may result from mild infections to more serious conditions like cancer or an STD and may mask urological problems. If they are not cured properly, it can lead to kidney damage or infertility. The symptoms one should not ignore and immediately consult a gynecologist are: one, swelling in one leg which may be a sign of cervical cancer; two, irregular vaginal bleeding which may lead to endometrial cancer; three, frequent urination which is a symptom that sometime indicates a mass pushing on the bladder; four, unexplained weight loss of more than ten pounds without dieting; five, bloody vaginal discharge which may mean cervical or uterine cancer; six, appetite loss or having a constant feeling of fullness which may be early signs of ovarian cancer; seven, ongoing pain in the abdomen including indigestion, gas, bloating and cramps; eight, feeling bloated for more than two weeks and/or after the menstruation cycle is over; nine, serious fatigue; ten, ongoing indigestion or nausea; eleven, genital bumps and itching which may be a symptom for vulvar cancer.

Vaginitis is an uncomfortable infection of the vagina. It occurs due to numerous factors, including sexually transmitted disease, poor hygiene and increased production of bacteria in the vagina and harsh perfumes or soaps. The symptoms are inflammation, unusual foul odor, irritation including itching and burning, redness and swelling. Vaginitis is quite a common problem, and easily curable.

Dysmenorrhea is a painful menstruation. It is a gynecological problem and it affects young women. Painful menstruation occurs by contractions in the uterus while menstruating or right before menstruation begins. Other symptoms include dizziness and diarrhea, nausea, as well as pain in the back. Dysmenorrhea can be treated by taking over the counter pain medication such as ibuprofen or aspirin. Yeast infections are an incredibly common disease. They are caused by an increase in yeast bacteria in the vagina. The vagina produces a specific amount of yeast naturally, but if it multiplies at a rapid rate, then yeast infection occurs. Medications, poor hygiene and unprotected sex can all cause increased yeast. The symptoms are increased white discharge, painful itching and burning of the vagina, and foul odor. It is very important to treat yeast infections early, to reduce the risk of increased symptoms.
