The annoying yeast infection is quite a common contagion which affects nearly 75 % of women. It is caused by a fungus known as Candida Albicans. Yeast is harmless and is generally present in the vagina, in the mouth and digestive tract. The problem occurs when there is an imbalance causing the Candida to multiply resulting in yeast infection.

Itching, burning sensation, soreness, vaginal discharge, pain while urinating and pain during intercourse are some of the symptoms of yeast infection. Odorless thick, white discharge which resembles cottage cheese is another symptom. Many a times women are unable to differentiate between itching caused by yeast infection and normal itching which is common among females. However the other symptoms should help to gauge the problem at its earliest.

Yeast infection in 5% of women could be recurring. If a women gets prone to yeast infection four times in a year for reasons other than consumption of antibiotics it is described as recurring. Taking antibiotics not only destroys illness causing bacteria but also the useful bacteria that reside in the vagina and control the expansion of yeast cells

Symptoms of yeast infection does not necessarily indicate the presence of yeast infection. It could even be the symptoms of other underlying condition. It is therefore best to get it thoroughly diagnosed.

Fortunately, healthy people can get completely cured from yeast infection through appropriate treatment. If its symptoms still persist even after 72 hours it is best to consult a doctor as the problem could be serious.

Follow the instructions given in the medication container. Even if you notice the symptoms disappearing stick to the dosage prescribed by the doctor as improper dosage and usage of medicines could cause problems in the delicate genital region.
