Healthy and safety is the number one priority within a workplace. After all, a lot of time is spent there and all staff have the right to feel safe. It is therefore essential that everyone in a workplace receives general health and safety training in case any accidents take place. By doing this training, all staff will also be given the knowledge and ability to prevent accidents from take place in the first place.

Ask yourself, would you feel safer at work if your colleagues were all given health and safety training? There would be a more widespread knowledge of potential hazards if everyone within your workplace were to do the same basic safety course. This would mean that these would be identified easier and faster than before and a solution can be found to reduce the risk of an injury occurring. Inevitably, you (and other staff) will feel much safer and happier to be working within that environment.

Essential health and safety training courses cover all of the basic safety aspects within your working environment. You will develop a better understanding of the hazards in your workplace, whether you are an employer or an employee. They will also provide you with the ability to spot these hazards and find a solution to eliminate them before any accidents take place.
However, you may think that you do not have enough time in your day to attend a course. You may be under the impression that in order to do a basic safety course, you would have to take time out of your busy working life and spend an afternoon or more in another room with the course leader. Or maybe you’ve found an external organisation that specialises in this training but you’re not keen on the idea of travelling miles to get there. Whilst this is often the case, there are methods of undertaking basic safety training within your actual working environment and in your own time. A computer with internet access is all you would need.

There are companies in the UK that specialise in providing essential health and safety training packages online or via CD-ROM. By doing your training this way, you can do it as and when it is convenient for you meaning that there is no need to disrupt your busy work life, or travel for hours to another location.

The packages that are provided by these companies generally contain training on fire awareness, information on how to choose and use the various types of fire extinguisher and information on slips, trips and falls. If your work takes place within an office, the packages will also teach you exactly how you should be sitting at your desk so that you reduce the chances of incurring back pain because of repetitive strain injury (RSI).

If your work involves a substantial amount of manual labour, the packages will also teach you how to ensure that you are lifting items correctly, without causing yourself any injury.

By undertaking a basic safety course, ultimately there would be a significant reduction in the number of days taken off sick due to illness or accidents and all staff will be healthier and happier. In addition to this, staff will be happier and confident knowing that they are working in a much safer environment.
