The history of Tamil Nadu goes back about 5,000 years. The state is the birth place of Dravidian culture in India. The dynasties of Chera, Chola and Pandyan ruled the Dravidian country from which the modern state Tamil Nadu is formed. It has seen the rise and fall of various dynasties and rulers, as Muslim powers and the establishment of East India Company which has created a larger impact on the cultural heritage of the state and life of people. With Chennai as the capital city, Tamil Nadu lies in the Southern most part of Indian Peninsula which is bordered with Pondicherry, Kerala, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh makes it an enchanting tourist destination that is thronged by larger number of visitors to explore its different facets.
The state is blessed with some of the best well-developed cities like Chennai, Coimbatore, Kanyakumari, Kanchipuram, Madurai etc. which are distinct and are festooned with major tourist attractions.
