Tamilnadu is known as the “Land of Temples” and all the wonders you can find here. There are more than 30,000 Temples in Tamilnadu. The temples are not just a place of worship rather; these also same as institutions of religious education as well as depict the art and craft of ancient times. Some of the most beautiful and famous temples are like Srivaikunthanthor Temple, Tirunelveli, is dedicated to the Lord Vishnu and has majestic gopurams. This is an ancient temple known for its enchanting icons, Ranganathaswamy Temple, Srirangam is dedicated toLord Vishnu although there are several other shrines dedicated to various gods and goddesses, Nataraja Temple, Chidambaram is a dedicated to the Dancing Form of Shiva in the form of the Lord Nataraja, Ramalinga Temple, Chidambaram is dedicated to the Lord Shiva in the form of Ramalinga or Ramananda. The significant feature worth watching in the temple is the thousand-pillar hall. Meenakshi Temple, Madurai is one of the most famous temples in Tamilnadu which is dedicated to Hindu Goddess Parvati who is known as Meenakshi. Beside these, other temples are Kumari Amman Temple, KanyaKumari, Kapaleshwarar temple, Mylapore, Vivekananda Memorial, KanyaKumari etc.
Meenakshi Temple
Meenakshi Temple is one the largest temple complex in India. It is dedicated to Hindu Goddess Parvati who is known as Meenakshi. Even, the original Meenakshi Temple was built by Kulasekara Pandya and is dedicated to Lord Shiva. There are 12 massive gopurams in the temple which look really inspiring. The thousand pillar halls are constructed in creative architecture style. The whole temple complex is shined by a number of diyas. Mythical animals and grotesque figures are carved on the walls of temple in bright colors. The temple complex has five entrances. Each covers an area of 254.1m long and 237.6m wide in the North South direction that is surrounded by smaller shrines and grand pillared halls. Recently in the list of Seven Wonders of the World, Meenakshi Temple was one of nominees for the new Seven Wonders of India
Brihadeeswara Temple
Brihadeeswara Temple is located in Thanjavur, Tamilnadu. This temple is the prime attraction of Thanjavur which is dedicated to Lord Shiva and has a 2.7 m high Shivalinga. It has a massive idol of Nandi (bull), the mount of Lord Shiva which has a height of 3.6 m, length of 5.94 m and width of 5.56 m. This idol is seated in ‘Nayak Mandapam’, which is decorated beautifully. This temple is built in artistic style and has great stone work. The carvings on the walls are in Sanskrit and Tamil languages. And the interesting and sunning fact is that you will be shocked and astonished when the shadow of its dome cannot be seen on the ground. This magnificent temple is also counted among the top and famous temples in India.
