Tantra has always been identified with sexuality, especially Red Tantra which is about mastering sexual energy. And yet there are many forms of Tantra most of which are not related to sexuality. I create my own blend of what being a Tantrika means. It is a practice of working with my energy body and sometimes this means my sexual energy. But mostly it is my life force or you may also know this as chi. I do this in subtle ways. Sometimes I move my energy working out at the gym. I like to really lose it while I do the Eliptical machine. I put on my earphones with some great music and let go. I lose it, which for me means I deeply relax into myself. I may shake my head or wag my derrière, but I give myself permission to let go and move my energy.

It also means that I pay attention to where the energy goes, whether that is within my own body or in another. I have found that over the years I have become much more adept at tuning into the energy of other people. So when I walk into a room full of people that I don’t know, I do my best to just feel into the energy. When I am speaking with someone I do the same. Being attuned to the energy is what being Tantric is all about.

For me living a more Tantric lifestyle and awakening to one’s true nature is a journey of learning how to be present, living in the moment, remaining as unattached to the ‘how’ and paying attention to the stillness of being that is all pervasive if we just take the time to slow down and truly listen. What you will find is silence and an all-pervasive feeling of stillness that is within you, surrounds you and all of life. This container is the Unified Field you may have read about or the Web of Life, as I like to call it.

When I am feeling particularly agitated about something or restless, as I was today, just reading or listening to statements of Truth immediately reconnects me with that Field, the Stillness of Being that I am, and I let go and calm down. I surrender into that stillness and give myself the gift of deep inner relaxation. Then, whatever was causing the agitation resolves itself.

Tantra is a moment-to -moment experience of awakening to the present and saying 'yes' to whatever that moment brings you. The art and skill is being willing to say ‘yes’ and then, as you relax into whatever is arising you may feel more peaceful or a sense of at easement. And then some action may come forth.

Just remember to breathe, breathe and trust the flow rather than resist it, and you will experience how the universe truly loves to support you.
