Ten Top Ways to Have More Positive Energy

With our environment consciousness these days, we are all being careful to ensure we use energy wisely. But what about our personal energy? Just as we want to make sure the heat doesn't leak out the windows and doors of our houses, we need to have the same awareness of the energy leaks in ourselves.
Here are some tips to make you a better ecologist of you own energy:
1) Write down your energy expenditures. Just as financial coaches ask us to keep track of every penny we spend for a few days, just to get a deeper sense of where our money is going, do the same thing with your energy expenditures. It's hard to be as specific as with actual dollars, so rate the 'cost' of every activity, conversation and thought in terms of 'high', 'medium' and 'low' energy cost. It may surprise you how much some 'thoughts' or conversations cost you. For example, I notice that when I say something critical of a friend, it feels bad and that costs me far more energy than if I'd said something positive. In fact, a positive comment would have increased my energy.
2) Now that you've identified some of the energy 'drains', plug the leaks. For example, if you find doing your books really draining, farm it out. Better to spend your time doing what you love—much less energetically 'expensive'. Having more energy 'cash' will allow you to build your life better and bring in more actual cash too!
3)If you can't plug a drain completely, plug it partially. You may have to listen to a negative co-worker, but listen for 2 minutes instead of 10.
4) Notice what activities, conversations and thoughts ADD to your energy bank. Notice whether the boost is small, medium or large. Again, you may be surprised how little things can energize you. For example, when I stop for a moment to notice something beautiful in nature, it takes a few seconds, but it refreshes me a lot. Do more of what increases your energy!
5) Start assessing your world less in terms of time and more in terms of energy. I had a talk last week to give to a group. The time involved was only 2 hours, but the energy needed to do it were much higher. Before I knew this, I would have booked myself with the usual number of other activities in the day, but now I balance things with energy expenditures in mind. Because I had balanced my day with this in mind, I wasn't exhausted at the end of it.
6) Know that your value to your clients/workplace has very much to do with HOW you are (your energy) and not just what you do. Yes, skill sets are important but the FEEL of you can keep a customer coming back and back.
7) Keep your energy bank topped up. When you feel full or resourceful, it's easier to take a 'hit' than it is when you are close to bottoming out. If you are already on overdraft, any hit can be dangerous. So, keeping your energy 'topped up' will protected and more stable. Think of this metaphor—if you just won the lottery, would you be worried about a big utility bill?
8) Understand that creativity thrives in what I call a light energy field. Keeping your energy high and positive will help you be more creative and these days, creativity is an important asset.
9) Being more in touch with your energy will help you be more intuitive. Listening to small, felt senses that reside in you is one sure way to be more in tune with yourself and your life. It will help you to listen to what's important and follow inner nudges that will lead to success.
10) Modulating your energy is something only masterful people can do. It's a skill of the 'evolved'. Develop it and you will move into a whole new stage of life mastery.
