Beyond a certain age, we all know the score, energy levels just aren't what they used to be, SO here are TEN simple habits to keep energy levels topped up.

1) Make time to exercise, I simply go circuit training at my local sports centre for three 1 hour sessions a week, it makes a world of difference. The three hours I invest wins me back at least 6 hours of industrious energy. Stay fit for life! If you miss the odd session, don't beat yourself up, just carry on, consistency is the key!

2) Nap, it's a simple thing, if you feel yourself crashing, don't fight it, take a quick 5-10 minute nap, this is like pressing the reset button and away you go again.

3) Get to bed, the number of people who say they are exhausted but always find time for two hours of brain-out TV in the evening. When all your tasks for the day are done, take a good book to bed, you'll be asleep by page four.

4) Up your fruit and vegetable intake, juice, blend and make smoothies to optimise nutrition. If you are concerned that you may be deficient in something, don't worry just find a B.A.N.T. registered nutritionist and find out! Likewise get tested for food allergies, you may be intolerant to something and not know it.

5) Stay hydrated, obvious but true, even slight dehydration can fog thinking and make you feel lethargic, get 2 litres a day down you or more if you are exercising.

6) Can the coffee, it is true caffeine gives us a temporary lift, but at what cost? Give up coffee for a while and let your system normalise. You'll also sleep better and be able to nap more readily.

7) Go meat free two days a week, animal based food can be draining to digest, go veggie for at least two days a week and see if you feel lighter.

8) Change the scene, more and more people are working from home or home based offices, the day can go by in a flash, break it up by leaving the building or 'fake commuting' as I call it, this breaks the day up, something different may happen while you're out and in reflection this make the day feel longer and less rushed.

9) Take a booze break, alcohol, while fun, can leave you dehydrated, out of whack and tired. Try a couple of weeks booze free and feel your energy return.

10) Get off the sugar roller coaster, let's be clear, it's not a food, it has no nutritional value, it's just a calorie dense stimulant that can get your hooked or leave you crashed. Take sugar and sugary products out of your diet and note the difference. Run on nutrients, not stimulants.

If I had to pick the two most effective it is to exercise and eat nutrient rich, but the more of these you do, chances are, the more energy you'll have. It'll help you build the life you want!
